Raymond Carver

1938-1988 Birth/Family  Born on May 25,  Father: worked at a 1938 in Clatskanie sawmill  He grew up in Yakima  Mother: various jobs, . including waitressing,  One brother- James clerk and a high Franklin Carver, that school teacher was 5 years younger.

Education  In 1956 Carver graduated from Yakima High School in Washington  He attended many courses of Creative Writing. He went to the Chico State University and then The Humboldt State College and finally received his Bachelors degree in 1963.  Mid-1960’s attended writing classes at Sacramento State College.  Master of fine arts graduate from the ’s Writers Workshop

 Literary connections with  His close friends were (writer) and Dennis Schmitz (poet), (actor, Chuck Kinder (novelist), playwright, publisher) Max Crawford, and  Wife compared him to (writer) Personal Life  1957- he married his first wife, Maryann Burke and had a daughter the same year and a son the next.  Became an alcoholic, attempted recovery but was hospitalized 3 times (June 1976, February and March 1977); then he finally stopped.

 1982- divorced Maryann Burke

 1988- married Tess Gallagher Death  Died August 2, 1988  Port Angeles due to lung cancer.  Carver was fifty years old at the time of his death.
