E-mail: [email protected] RESUMEN Se actualiza toda la información bibliográfica relativa a la Península Ibérica y relacionada con las tres especies de megalópteros presentes en su fauna (Insecta, Neuropterida, Megaloptera: Sialidae). Partiendo de los datos generales conocidos sobre estas especies, y en base a esta información ibérica, se aporta una clave de identifi- cación de imagos y larvas de estas especies, y se anotan y se recopilan los datos conocidos sobre su morfología, su biología, sus estadios larvarios y su distribución geográfica, fenológica y altitudinal en la zona estudiada. Palabras clave: Península Ibérica; Faunística; Biología; Neuropterida; Megaloptera; Sialidae; Sialis; “monjas”. ABSTRACT The alder-flies of the Iberian Peninsula (Insecta, Neuropterida, Megaloptera, Sialidae) All existing Iberian bibliographical information related to the three alder-flies species known in the Iberian Peninsula’s fauna (Insecta, Neuropterida, Megaloptera: Sialidae) is brought up to date. On the basis of general knowledge about these species, and taking into account the known Iberian data, a key for imagoes and larvae is included and what is known about their morphology, biology, larval stages and geographical, phenological and altitudinal distribution in the area studied is reviewed. Anderson Comparative ecological studies of Sialis californica Banks and Sialis rotunda Banks were made in Western Oregon from 1966 to 1968. Field collections for S. rotunda were made in fish holding pond at the Oak Creek laboratories, 5 miles west of Corvallis, Benton County, and for S. californica in enriched sections of Berry Creek experi- mental stream, 13 miles north of Corvallis. Life histories were determined in aquaria, in laboratory streams and the natural habitats.S. rotunda, predominantly a pond species, completed its life cycle in one year in all situations.S. californica, commonly a stream species, took one or two years depending on oviposition time and food availability.Both species were reared successfully in the laboratory through all stages of their life cycle.There are ten larval instars.The larvae are carnivorous and feed on insects and other small benthic organisms. Biweekly or monthly samples were collected from the two loca- tions for density, biomass, growth rate and production studies. Density and biomass of S. rotunda in the pond were much higher than for S. californica in the stream. Enrichment with sucrose and urea resulted in differences in density and biomass of S. californica between the four experimental sections at Berry Creek.The unenriched section usually had a high density but low or similar biomass compared with the enriched sections which had few individuals. -

It was found in two sites in the Masurian Lake District in the years 1998-1999. Key words:Neuropteroidea, Megaloptera , Sialis morio, Poland. In Europe, this taxon is represented by 10 species of the genus Sialis L a t r . , the family Siali dae (A s p ó c k et al. 1980, V s h iv k o v a 1985, 1987). However, according to A s p ó c k (1992) and A s p ó c k and H o l z e l (1994), this genus should be revised, for some of the recently described species may be synonyms of others. The species considered unquestionable by these authors include Sialis lutaria L., S. morio K l i n g s t . , S. sordida K l i n g s t . , S. fuliginosa PICT., S. rtigripes PICT, and S. sibirica M c L a c h l . This is the first report for this species in Western Europe. Separate surveys were conducted to assess the geographical distribution, host plant susceptibility and natural enemies of T. peregrinus. To ascertain the geographical distribution of T. peregrinus surveys were conducted between May and June 2012 at 53 sites in central and southern Portugal. T. peregrinus was present in only three sites, which were all located in Lisbon and surrounding areas suggesting an in- troduction pathway through the harbors or the airport in this coastal city. Of the 30 Eucalyptus species present in Lisbon’s Euca- lyptus arboretum, 14 were confirmed as infested by T. peregrinus during the first survey in April 2012. In August 2012 the host range had increased to 19 Eucalyptus species, revealing an expansion phase. R NEW (%toria) Abstract Aspects of the field ecology of the two common Hemerobiidae in southern Australia (Micromus tas- maniae WALKER,Drepanacra binocula (NEWMAN)) are compared from data from three years samp- ling near Melbourne. M. tmmaniae occurs in a range of habitats, is polyphagous and is found throughout much of the year. D.binocula is more closely associated with acacias, feeds particularly on Acacia Psylli- dae and is strictly seasonal. The developmental biology and aspects of feeding activity of these 'relative generalist' and 'relative specialist' species are compared in the laboratory at a range of temperatures and on two prey species with the aim of assessing their potential for biocontrol of Psyllidae. Introduction About 20 species of brown lacewings, Hemerobiidae, are known from Australia. Most of these are uncommon and represented by few individuals in collections, and only two can be considered common in south eastern Australia. One of these, Micromus tasmaniae WAL- KER, represents a widely distributed genus and is abundant on a range of vegetation types. The other, Drepanacra binocula (NEWMAN), represents a monotypic genus from Australia and New Zealand and is more particularly associated with native shrubs and trees - in Austra- lia, perhaps especially with acacias, These species are the only Hemerobiidae found on Acacia during a three year survey of arboreal insect predators on several Acacia species around Mel- bourne, Victoria, and some aspects of their life-histories and feeding biology are compared in this paper. -
The Biology of the Predator Complex of the Filbert Aphid, Myzocallis Coryli

Abstract approved: Redacted for Privacy M. T. AliNiiee Commercial filbert orchards throughout the Willamette Valley were surveyed for natural enemies of the filbert aphid, Myzocallis coryli (Goetze). A large number of predaceous insects were found to prey upon M. coryli, particularly members of the families Coccinellidae, Miridae, Chrysopidae, Hemerobiidae, and Syrphidae. Also, a parasitic Hymenopteran (Mesidiopsis sp.) and a fungal pathogen (Triplosporium fresenii) were found to attack this aphid species. Populations of major predators were monitored closely during 1981 to determine phenology and synchrony with aphid populations and to determine their relative importance. Adalia bipunctata, Deraeocoris brevis, Chrysopa sp. and Hemerobius sp. were found to be extremely well synchronized with aphid population development cycles. Laboratory feeding trials demonstrated that all 4 predaceous insects tested (Deraeocoris brevis, Heterotoma meriopterum, Compsidolon salicellum and Adalia bipunctata) had a severe impact upon filbert aphid population growth. A. bipunctata was more voracious than the other 3 species, but could not live as long in the absence of aphid prey. Several insecticides were tested both in the laboratory and field to determine their relative toxicity to filbert aphids and the major natural enemies. Field tests showed Metasystox-R to be the most effective against filbert aphids, while Diazinon, Systox, Zolone, and Thiodan were moderately effective. Sevin was relatively ineffective. All insecticides tested in the field severely disrupted the predator complex. -

More than500 taxa below the family level wereinventoried, and each listing includes relative frequency of encounter, life stages collected, and dominant role in the greenleaf manzanita community. Specific host relationships are included for some predators and parasitoids. Herbivores, predators, and parasitoids comprised the majority (80 percent) of identified insects and related taxa. Tarset and Greystead Biological Records
Tarset and Greystead Biological Records published by the Tarset Archive Group 2015 Foreword Tarset Archive Group is delighted to be able to present this consolidation of biological records held, for easy reference by anyone interested in our part of Northumberland. It is a parallel publication to the Archaeological and Historical Sites Atlas we first published in 2006, and the more recent Gazeteer which both augments the Atlas and catalogues each site in greater detail. Both sets of data are also being mapped onto GIS. We would like to thank everyone who has helped with and supported this project - in particular Neville Geddes, Planning and Environment manager, North England Forestry Commission, for his invaluable advice and generous guidance with the GIS mapping, as well as for giving us information about the archaeological sites in the forested areas for our Atlas revisions; Northumberland National Park and Tarset 2050 CIC for their all-important funding support, and of course Bill Burlton, who after years of sharing his expertise on our wildflower and tree projects and validating our work, agreed to take this commission and pull everything together, obtaining the use of ERIC’s data from which to select the records relevant to Tarset and Greystead. Even as we write we are aware that new records are being collected and sites confirmed, and that it is in the nature of these publications that they are out of date by the time you read them. But there is also value in taking snapshots of what is known at a particular point in time, without which we have no way of measuring change or recognising the hugely rich biodiversity of where we are fortunate enough to live.
