  • Review, Email Clients with Source Code Editing
Review, Email Clients with Source Code Editing By Micheline Johnson Updated 2013-12-05 Why is source code editing desirable? It enables the addition of variable indenting and hanging indents, tables, images, charts, videos etc. the replacement of <p> tags with <div> tags, if para spacing is not required. Wikipedia lists most email clients. Of these, the free Windows or cross-platform GUI email clients are included in the Appendix. Of these, the current mainstream desktop GUI email clients include: 1. Outlook, overkill for most purposes, and is not free. 2. Outlook Express, not available for Windows 7 3. Windows Live Mail 4. Mozilla Thunderbird, does not natively support HTML editing or tables. 5. Eudora v7.1, runs on Microsoft Windows XP/2000 (http://www.eudora.com/download/). It has problems with Windows 7, see http://mcaf.ee/cxsw8 . It runs on Windows XP, and does not appear to support editing HTML source code, or tables. 6. Eureka Email. It is very difficult to uninstall, see http://mcaf.ee/1q0ka , so I did not test it. 7. Pegasus Mail. Pegasus v4.63 allows the insertion of a table and the editing of the number of rows or columns of that table; but it does not support editing of HTML source code. It supports hanging indents to increments of one tab spacing, which is very crude. 8. DreamMail 9. FoxMail 10. SeaMonkey. http://www.seamonkey-project.org/. Allows inserting of tables. Appears to allow insertion of HTML code, but does not allow viewing of the entire HTML source code. 11. Netscape Messenger used to have an HTML editor.

applied sciences Article On the Security of Practical Mail User Agents against Cache Side-Channel Attacks † Hodong Kim 1 , Hyundo Yoon 1, Youngjoo Shin 2 and Junbeom Hur 1,* 1 Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Korea University, Seoul 02841, Korea; [email protected] (H.K.); [email protected] (H.Y.) 2 School of Computer and Information Engineering, Kwangwoon University, Seoul 01897, Korea; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected] † This paper is an extended version of our paper published in the 2020 International Conference on Information Networking (ICOIN), Barcelona, Spain, 7–10 January 2020. Received: 30 April 2020; Accepted: 26 May 2020; Published: 29 May 2020 Abstract: Mail user agent (MUA) programs provide an integrated interface for email services. Many MUAs support email encryption functionality to ensure the confidentiality of emails. In practice, they encrypt the content of an email using email encryption standards such as OpenPGP or S/MIME, mostly implemented using GnuPG. Despite their widespread deployment, there has been insufficient research on their software structure and the security dependencies among the software components of MUA programs. In order to understand the security implications of the structures and analyze any possible vulnerabilities of MUA programs, we investigated a number of MUAs that support email encryption. As a result, we found severe vulnerabilities in a number of MUAs that allow cache side-channel attacks in virtualized desktop environments. Our analysis reveals that the root cause originates from the lack of verification and control over the third-party cryptographic libraries that they adopt. In order to demonstrate this, we implemented a cache side-channel attack on RSA in GnuPG and then conducted an evaluation of the vulnerability of 13 MUAs that support email encryption in Ubuntu 14.04, 16.04 and 18.04.

  • Esa Study Contract Report
ESA STUDY CONTRACT REPORT ESA Contract No: Subject: Contractor: ESA ITT Number Current and Future Tech- Distributed Systems Group, AO/3-12280/07/NL/CB nologies for Collaborative Vienna University of Tech- Working Environments nology ESA CR() No: No of volumes: 1 Contractor’s Reference: This Volume No: 1 TEUN Abstract: This document reports the final, detailed result of the study on current and future technologies for collaborative working environments (CWEs). The goal of this study is to analyze current CWEs and whether they and their future trends are suitable for large- scale multinational organizations. To this end, we have analyzed the structure of large-scale organizations in general, and of ESA in particular, with respect to organization, geographical distribution, and IT environments. Requirements for CWEs used in collaborative work are presented. Based on an initial list of criteria given by ESA, we have revised and extended the list to introduce a comprehensive set of criteria for evaluating CWEs. The state-of-the- art CWEs are discussed and classified. We have selected 15 representative CWE products and evaluated and compared them in detail. From the evaluation and comparison of CWE products, we have presented our findings of current issues and future trends of CWEs. In particular, existing products provide many features required by large-scale and multinational organizations but those features are not well-integrated into a single system. Due to the complexity of collaborative work within those organizations, often many CWEs are used in parallel and it is not easy to integrate those CWEs together. The work described in this report was done under ESA Contract.
