Outdoor Championships • Palo Alto, Calif. • June 21-23 Sun Devil Track and Field Closes 2002 Arizona State Book On 2002 Season Outdoor Schedule NCAA Outdoor Championship Recap -- March 2 Bill Sawyer Invitational Arizona State track and field wrapped up the 2002 season at the NCAA Outdoor Cham- Field -9 a.m., Running-11 a.m. pionships hosted by Louisiana State University at Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Sun Angel Stadium March 15-16 @ Willie Williams Classic Rouge, La., May 29-June 1. Riding junior Tiffany Greer’s runner-up finish in the long Tucson, Ariz. jump and junior Lisa Aguilera’s sixth-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase, the Sun March 22 Baldy Castillo Invitational Devil women ended the four-day meet with 11 points and in a tie for 22nd with Florida Field-9:30 a.m., Running-6 p.m. State. It was the second-straight top-25 finish at the national outdoor meet for the Sun Angel Stadium ASU women and the second-best finish since the 1995 squad placed 17th. South March 23 Baldy Castillo Invitational Carolina won the women’s NCAA team title with 82 points over UCLA (72 points) Field-11 a.m., Running-1 p.m. and defending champion USC (57). On the men’s side, ASU tallied just one point Sun Angel Stadium March 30 Arizona State Invitational with the 4x400m relay team’s eighth-place finish and ended in an eight-way tie for Field-10 a.m., Running-6 p.m. 68th place. This year is the first since 1998 that the men have not earned a top-20 Sun Angel Stadium national outdoor finish. Host LSU won the men’s team title with 64 points, over March 29-30 @ Stanford Invitational Tennessee (57) and Southern Methodist (42). With their top-eight finishes, Greer and Stanford, Calif. More NCAA Notes -- May 29-June 1@ NCAA Championships Junior Tiffany Greer kept her streak alive, earning her sixth-straight All-America honor Baton Rouge, La. in the women’s long jump with her runner-up finish in Baton Rouge…she has earned three honors indoors and three outdoors…Greer’s feat is unprecedented in ASU his- ASU Track and Field tory as Tesra Bester is the only Sun Devil woman to garner multiple All-America acclaim in the long jump…Bester did so only twice, both indoors and outdoors in Coaching Staff 1992…Greer’s runner-up mark, 21 feet, 3.25 inches, was an outdoor personal-best and came on her first attempt…Aguilera’s All-America nod in the 3000m steeple- Head Coach: Greg Kraft (sixth year) chase is her fourth on the track and second this season after finishing runner-up in the Assistant Coaches: Walt Drenth, distance 3000m at the NCAA Indoor Championships…Aguilera set a personal-best in the event (sixth year), Darryl Anderson, sprints (sixth year), in the prelims with a time of 10:05.38…the men’s 4x400m relay team of junior Lorenzo David Dumble, throws (first year) Parham, sophomore Steve Fitch, senior Pete Lopez and freshman Seth Amoo earned Graduate Assistant: Louie Quintana (first year) the second-straight All-America honor for ASU in the event at outdoor nationals, and third in the last four years…the team finished eighth in the final in 3:05.65, but clocked a season-best of 3:05.36 in the prelims…senior Brandon Strong nearly eclipsed his ASU Media Information personal-best in the prelim of the 1500m, qualifying for the final with the third fastest time overall 3:41.54…his personal-best time of 3:41.42, which ranks second in school Track and Field Contact: Erin Rowley history, was set earlier this season…Strong ended up finishing 12th in the final (3:46.43).
