Ball Hawks Utilizing its trademark matchup-zone, Monmouth perennially ranks among the league leaders in scoring defense. In fact, Monmouth has led the NEC in the category in 12 of the last 17 years, including the last three in a row and five out of the last six. In 2004-05, the Hawks were once again the NEC’s stingiest defensive unit, allowing a mere 63.2 ppg, the seventh best single-season mark in league history. Mount’s Thompson Climbs NEC Scoring Chart With 1,321 career points in his first three seasons, Mount St. Mary’s senior guard Landy Thomp- son (Germantown, MD/Archbishop Spalding) is the NEC’s leading active scorer entering play in 2005-06. If Thompson were to average 16.7 points over the course of a 27-game regular season, he would vault from 62nd place on the NEC career chart all the way into the top-ten. As a junior, Thompson averaged 14.4 ppg to lead the Mount in scoring for a third consecutive season.
