OAKLAND ATHLETICS Media Release Oakland Athletics Baseball Company 7000 Coliseum Way Oakland, CA 94621 510-638-4900 www.athletics.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 17, 2014 A’s Place LHP Pomeranz on 15-day DL; Recall RHP Scribner from Sacramento OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s placed left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right hand and recalled right-handed pitcher Evan Scribner from Triple-A Sacramento, the club announced today. The A’s also acquired left-handed pitcher Brad Mills from the Milwaukee Brewers in a minor league trade in exchange for cash considerations. Pomeranz is 5-4 with a 2.91 ERA and .225 opponents batting average in 17 games, including eight starts, with the A’s. He began the season in the bullpen, going 1-1 with a 1.98 ERA in nine relief appearances. Pomeranz moved into the starting rotation May 7 and is 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA in eight starts since then. This is his second career stint on the DL. Scribner was on the A’s Opening Day roster and made two scoreless appearances (1.1 ip) before he was optioned to Sacramento April 7 when Ryan Cook was reinstated from the disabled list. He is 2-1 with nine saves and a 4.32 ERA in 21 relief appearances with the River Cats and has struck out 34 while walking just six in 25.0 innings. Scribner has allowed just one run over his last six appearances and 9.0 innings. Mills has spent the entire season at Triple-A Nashville where he went 4-2 with a 1.56 ERA and .190 opponents batting average in 14 games, including 12 starts. His ERA is the lowest in the Pacific Coast League and fourth lowest among all full season minor leaguers. The 29-year-old left-hander also ranks third in the PCL in strikeouts (77) and opponents batting average. Mills is 1-2 over his last five starts but has a 0.87 ERA over that span. He made his Major League debut with Toronto in 2009 and last pitched in the majors with the Los Angeles Angels in 2012. Mills is 3-3 with a 7.76 ERA in 15 career appearances, including 10 starts. Fulmer's six-plus quality innings and Justin Wilson's five-out save helped the Tigers close out the first half by avoiding a series sweep to the Indians with a 5-3 win Sunday night at Progressive Field. Cleveland heads into the All-Star break at 47-40, up 2 1/2 games on the Twins in the AL Central. Detroit moved within eight games but still has work to do at 39-48 as general manager Al Avila listens to offers ahead of the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline. Kluber and Fulmer (9-6) both allowed a run on three hits over their first five innings. But while Fulmer did it in just 58 pitches, Kluber threw 101, thanks in part to eight strikeouts. Detroit scored three runs in the sixth off the Tribe bullpen, two on Alex Presley's go-ahead double, to move ahead for good. Fulmer entered the seventh with a 5-1 lead and a pitch count of only 71, but four straight hits, including Jose Ramirez's two-run homer, knocked Fulmer out of the game before an out was recorded. Shane Greene retired three straight to escape the jam, then turned the ball over to Wilson, who stranded the bases loaded in the eighth and worked around a single in the ninth for his 10th save.

Kluber tosses gem, K's 10 for 5th start in a row All-Star ace pitches eight innings of one-run ball, but loses By Jordan Bastian / MLB.com | @MLBastian | July 4th, 2017 + 1 COMMENT CLEVELAND -- Corey Kluber peered in to get the sign, but Indians catcher Yan Gomes was resting on both knees. It was then that the Indians' ace noticed the decibel level was rising at Progressive Field, along with the stadium's sellout crowd. For a brief moment, Kluber stepped off the rubber to allow the standing ovation to run its course in the eighth inning. Then, it was back to work for Kluber, whose record-setting gem went for naught in a 1-0 loss to the Padres on Tuesday night. In a tough defeat, Kluber's audience recognized his club-record fifth start in a row with double-digit strikeouts. "They got loud, which was pretty cool," Kluber said. Inside Cleveland's clubhouse after the loss, there was plenty of disappointment over seeing Kluber's eight-inning masterpiece go to waste. In the fifth, shortstop Francisco Lindor and second baseman Jason Kipnis each misfired in an attempt to turn double plays, leading to San Diego's lone run on a fielder's choice. In the batter's box, the Indians put seven runners in scoring position, yet never scored. Save for grabbing a bat himself, Kluber did all he could to try to win. Instead, in his first start since being named an American League All-Star, the right-hander took his third loss of the season.

Michael Brantley's two-run double, Lonnie Chisenhall's two-run homer and Francisco Lindor's two-run triple powered the Tribe to an 11-2 win Friday night at Progressive Field. "It was just a nice game to see the guys play the way they did," said bench coach Brad Mills, who's managing the Tribe while Terry Francona recovers from a heart procedure. "Offensively, Brantley had some big at-bats, he could have had even a bigger night. We had big hits all the way around. Shoot, [Bradley Zimmer] had a good night. [Chisenhall] had that big blow that really kind of gave us a couple extra runs as a cushion there. But there were some good at-bats." Carrasco, who hasn't allowed more than two runs in a game against the Tigers in their past nine meetings, struck out a season-high 11 over seven innings, including all three outs of the fifth and sixth. J.D. Martinez and Miguel Cabrera had RBI singles in the fourth and sixth, respectively. "It's fun [to play behind him]," Lindor said of Carrasco. "I know he's got the stuff to be a No. 1 starter and he deserves to be in the All-Star Game. It's just whenever he goes out there and does what he does best, it's pretty special.
