Player Development A History of Championship and Excellence

 The Arizona baseball program has won three national championships - 1976, 1980, 1986 - Seventh-most among all Division I schools and the third-most in the Pac-10.

 Arizona has made 15 College appearances in its history. The eighth-most among Division I schools and tied for third-most in the Pac-10.

 In Omaha, Arizona has won 33 games. The seventh-most among Division I schools and the fourth most in the Pac-10.

 The Wildcats have made 33 NCAA Regional appearances in the last 53 years. Only one other Pac-10 team has appeared in the postseason more.

 The Wildcats have won 2,498 games in school history, seventh- most among all Division I schools ever.

 Located in Tucson, Ariz., the climate is perfect for baseball throughout the winter and spring seasons. Tucson is a baseball community, as it also served as the home to AAA affiliates every year from 1969-2008. Exposure to scouts and personnel is at a premium as the and all call Tucson their home. The Cactus League has another nine Major League franchises that visit the state and Tucson in February and March.

 Since 1965, Arizona has had 206 players drafted by teams, of which 159 have signed contracts and have gone on to play professionally.

 Arizona has produced 64 major leaguers in its history, including current stars of the Brewers, Brian Anderson of the White Sox and of Padres, of the Indians and of the Tigers. Recent Wildcats Daniel Schlereth, and also made their debuts in 2009.

 67 All-America teams have named 82 Wildcat players either first-, second-, or third-team honorees.

 A total of 66 Arizona players have been named first-team All- Pac-10 Players since 1979. 12 were named All-Pac-10 two or more times.

 Five Wildcats have been named Pac-10 Player/ of the Year, including 2005 honoree Trevor Crowe and 2007 honoree Preston Guilmet.

 In 1980, future Major Leaguer was named the Golden Spikes winner as the top collegiate baseball player. and Trevor Crowe have both been named finalists for the award.

Arizona Baseball 102 Lopez is one of only 11 active coaches to have won a National Championship in Omaha.

After leading Arizona to Omaha in 2004, Coach Lopez is an elite group of three coaches that have taken three schools to the College World Series in the all-time history of Division I baseball.

Coach Lopez is a two-time National Coach of the Year (1992 and 1996) and an eight- time Conference Coach of the Year

In 25 seasons as a he has won 969 games and has a of .614. His teams have won 447 games in their respective conferences and have captured conference titles eight times.

Since 1987, Lopez coached teams have averaged 38 wins a season and he has won 40 or more games in a season 10 times. His top-ranked 1996 College World Series team at Florida were victorious a school record 50 times that season, while 2007-08 Arizona teams won 40 games in back-to-back seasons, the first time the school accomplished the feat in over 20 years.

There are currently 12 former coached players in the Major Leagues. , David Eckstein , , David Ross, Matt Wise, , Ryan Raburn, Brian Anderson, Nick Hundley, Ryan Perry and Trevor Crowe. A handful of other players have reached the major leagues, including Paul Rigdon, , John Meloan and Daniel Schlereth.

Since 1987, Coach Lopez has recruited and coached 75 players that have gone on to be drafted in the Major League Amateur Baseball Draft, including seven first round selections (two in 2008). Of the 71 players selected, 43 weren’t even drafted out high school or junior college, while 24 other players improved their draft status after playing under his guide. Including the draftees, a total of 105 players coached by Lopez have signed professional baseball contracts.

Coach Lopez has led 32 players to All-America honors, 24 to all-region awards and 65 players to all-conference recognition.

Over the last 18 seasons, Lopez-coached teams have appeared in the College World Series an average of nearly once every four years. In doing so, nearly every player that plays under coach Lopez has the opportunity to play in the College World series during his career.
