Bullpen Falters After Pitch Count Chases Kluber by Jason
Bullpen falters after pitch count chases Kluber By Jason Beck and William Kosileski / MLB.com | 12:18 AM ET + 6 COMMENTS CLEVELAND -- Michael Fulmer won't pitch in the Midsummer Classic, but he'll settle for winning a duel opposite fellow American League All- Star Corey Kluber. Fulmer's six-plus quality innings and Justin Wilson's five-out save helped the Tigers close out the first half by avoiding a series sweep to the Indians with a 5-3 win Sunday night at Progressive Field. Cleveland heads into the All-Star break at 47-40, up 2 1/2 games on the Twins in the AL Central. Detroit moved within eight games but still has work to do at 39-48 as general manager Al Avila listens to offers ahead of the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline. Kluber and Fulmer (9-6) both allowed a run on three hits over their first five innings. But while Fulmer did it in just 58 pitches, Kluber threw 101, thanks in part to eight strikeouts. Detroit scored three runs in the sixth off the Tribe bullpen, two on Alex Presley's go-ahead double, to move ahead for good. Fulmer entered the seventh with a 5-1 lead and a pitch count of only 71, but four straight hits, including Jose Ramirez's two-run homer, knocked Fulmer out of the game before an out was recorded. Shane Greene retired three straight to escape the jam, then turned the ball over to Wilson, who stranded the bases loaded in the eighth and worked around a single in the ninth for his 10th save. -

Chapter 1.2 Notes.Pdf
Describing Distributions with Numbers To Describe the Center (the C in SOCS) we use mean and median. The Mean: x (lower case letter used!) • The average of a set of observations. • If the n observations are x1, x 2 ,....., x n , their mean is x+ x +..... + x ∑ xi x = 1 2 n x = n or in more compact notation n • Sensitive to the influence of a few extreme observations . • A skewed distribution will pull the mean toward its long tail. • Not a resistant measure of center . • For example: Which way is this data skewed? Where is the mean likely to be? The Median : the midpoint of the data such that half of the observations are smaller and half are larger Do you think that the median is more or less resistant than the mean? To find the median: 1. Arrange all observation in order of size, from smallest to largest. 2. if n is odd: median = center observation 3. if n is even: median = the average of the two center observations Example: Find the mean and the median of the following data sets. 1. 3 5 6 6 8 10 11 2. 18 22 22 23 24 26 27 27 Mean vs. Median • What is an example of a data sample that the median gives you more information than the mean? • Symmetrical distribution: mean = median. • Skewed distribution: the mean is farther out in the long tail than is the median. (Extreme data points pull the mean toward them and the median is more resistant). • If you are looking at the age of the students in this classroom would you use mean or median? What if you also included the teacher? To Describe the Spread (the S in SOCS) we use the quartiles and the variance. -
Dobber's 2010-11 Fantasy Guide
DOBBER’S 2010-11 FANTASY GUIDE DOBBERHOCKEY.COM – HOME OF THE TOP 300 FANTASY PLAYERS I think we’re at the point in the fantasy hockey universe where DobberHockey.com is either known in a fantasy league, or the GM’s are sleeping. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Any updates beyond this original release will be in bold blue. -
