AR. MADHU VOTTERY PROFILE: A Conservation Architect, author of 4 books and curator of one mobile application, Madhu Vottery is an expert on Heritage Education and currenlty working with 30 children on a Workshop on Cultural aspects of Ramayana. She had designed the four Heritage Walks in and around the Walled City, written and illustrated a book inventorying the 275 Heritage sites of around 2009-11. This was the time when she was selected for the prestigious IVLP (International Visitor Leadership Program- MRP 2012) by the US Consulate, Hyderabad. Her love for working with children to promote Heritage is Illustration sample from Buddhist evident in her research writing with detailed illustrations and training Art-Ashtasahasra Prajnaparamita programs. It can also be observed in the demonstration of Heritage Walks, Craft Walk, Nature Walk and Museum Walk and the Historic Moazzam Jahi Market Walk (Aug 2020). The aim of these projects is to design the activities related to HERITAGE EDUCATION and CULTURAL TOURISM promotion, with the help of State Government, Academicians, Heritage enthusiasts and many individuals. She also passionately trains people from different walks of life (also at State Forest Academy), as a tool to create awareness in society for heritage and environment.

INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS: An ICOMOS Cultural Tourism EXPERT MEMBER, Madhu was Observer to the Ramappa Temple- the latest World Heritage Site in Telangana. She has also contributed a Desk Review for a site in Central America for World Monuments Fund in July 2021. She has successfully completed designing and conducting series of five webinars CONNECTING THE DOTS…showcasing lesser-known cultural heritage sites of , involving 12 scholars in Jan-Feb 2021, benefitting hundreds of students and educators. She has worked on Capacity Building Workshops for UNESCO Delhi Office (Aug 2019-March 2020). She was appointed as a Liaison Officer by Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) for UNESCO Culture officer, Ms Junhi Han’s visit to Hyderabad. A talk on Hyderabad hosted by India Tourism, DEKHO APNA DESH, on 22 Aug 2020 has given her national and international fame, acknowledged by Sri Yogendra Tripathi (IAS), Secretary, Ministry of Tourism. During the ICCA in 2011 in Hyderabad, she had addressed 850 international delegates from . She has conceptualized a mobile application for Natural and Built Heritage Components of Hyderabad titled ‘HYDERABAD HERITAGE’ after a research of decade and half. The application is a useful tool to curate Virtual tours for scholars and students of different faculties. Madhu had the honour of taking the family of Presidents of India and Mauritius to different historic sites of Hyderabad for Heritage Interpretation.

NATIONAL PROJECTS: The Virtual Kids Nature Camp for hundreds of children in Aug 2020 was coordinated by her for the Forest Department. Madhu has taken classes for children in Summer camps at Salarjung Museum too. She has received INTACH India Scholarship (2017-18) for a study on the historic cities of Bidar and Basavakalyan. She is been honoured by REACH (Rural Education and Cultural Heritage) Foundation, Chennai (2019) and was nominated as one of the 10 Best Planners by India Today Home in 2016. Madhu is presently leading the ICOMOS National Scientific Committee for Cultural Tourism. Madhu has lectured in many reputed institutions. She has presented and published papers in International conferences and planned many educational events for children and adults. REGIONAL PROJECTS: Madhu has trained hundreds of Govt teachers for ‘Connecting Heritage with school curriculum’ in Nov-Dec 2020. ARCHIVAL RESAERCH and Market Walk planning at Moazzam Jahi Market for GHMC has brought her honour. She has published four books: A Guide to the Heritage of Hyderabad, the Natural and the Built (2010) and Heritage of Hyderabad: from Children for Children (2014 English and 2016 Telugu Edition), Magnifying the Miniature (2020, Mapin Books) and Moazzam Jahi Market (2020 copyrighted Text and Illustrations). At Telangana State Forest Academy Madhu worked on Eco Tourism Projects and training of volunteers. She has been awarded by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State Govt in 2017, 2018 and also by local agencies for her work. In 2018- 19, events on Buddha Poornima were planned with prayers and ‘Nritya Natika’ by Telangana Tourism, with her consultation. In 2015, Madhu has worked on translation of Buddhist text for Fo Guang Shan Monastery, in the guidance of Bhante Sangharakhita Mahathero (Mahabodhi Buddha Vihar), Hyderabad.
