Pingry Sports – 1/16/17 By Ethan Malzberg ’19 Boys’ Basketball Despite Michael Weber’s efforts on Thurs., Jan. 12, leading Big Blue with 14 total points, Pingry fell to Bound Brook, 54-32. Big Blue triumphed over Skyland Conference Mountain Division rival Bernards High School on Tues. Jan. 10 with a final score of 45-36. Zach Aanstoots led Pingry with 19 points. Weber added 11 and recorded five rebounds. Girls’ Basketball Led By Sarah Moseson and Mary Pagano, who scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, Big Blue defeated Pennington, 55-20, on Fri,. Jan. 13. Kelsey Ransom scored nine and had 12 rebounds. Megan Horn scored 32 points against North Plainfield on Thurs,. Jan. 12, including seven 3-pointers, allowing Pingry to triumph, 78-48. Moseson and Ransom also scored 21 and 20 points, respectively. Despite efforts from Ransom, who scored 15 points, and Horn, who scored 14, Big Blue fell to Somerville High School, 71-55, on Mon,. Jan. 10. Boys’ Fencing Pingry placed 29th out of 47 teams at the Cetrulo Fencing Tournament for boys on Saturday. Watchung Hills edged Big Blue on Friday, 15-12. Pingry defeated North Hunterdon, 15-12, on Wed., Jan. 11. On Tuesday, Jan. 10, Big Blue lost to Ridge, 15-12. Girls’ Fencing Big Blue fell to Watchung Hills on Friday, 16-11. Pingry finished with a strong, 17-10 win against North Hunterdon on Wednes., Jan. 11. Ridge overcame Pingry, 18-9, on Tues., Jan. 10. Boys’ Ice Hockey With two goals, Will Kazel led Big Blue to a 4-0 shutout victory over Bernards High School on Friday. A.J. Bernstein and George Enman each scored once, and keeper Andrew Brosie saved all six shots on goal. Austin Parsons led the team with a goal and two assists in Big Blue’s 5-2 win over Watchung Hills on Tues., Jan. 10. Joe Faccone, Matt Keller, Greg Naratil, and Daniel Schnack each scored a goal apiece. Girls’ Ice Hockey Rose Beatty scored Big Blue’s lone goal in Pingry’s 3-1 loss to Kent Place on Friday. Big Blue closed out Lawrenceville, 8-0, on Thurs., Jan. 12. Boys’ Ski Team Matt Dispenza finished ninth in giant slalom in a race on Thurs., Jan. 12. Girls’ Ski Team Lindsey Hogan placed second overall and Annie Leithead placed fifth overall in giant slalom in a race on Thurs., Jan. 12, contributing to the team’s 3-3 record. Boys’ Squash On Thurs., Jan. 12, despite very close matches, Big Blue ultimately fell to Packer, 6-1. In the team’s first home match in the Pingry’s new Bugliari Athletics Center, Big Blue shut out Blair Academy, 9-0, on Wed., Jan. 11. Girls’ Squash Big Blue triumphed over Blair Academy, 6-3, on Wed., Jan. 11. Boys’ Swimming Pingry won 107-63 against St. Peter’s Prep on Thurs., Jan. 12. Big Blue defeated Ridge High School, 123-52, on Tues., Jan. 10, with Leighton Mayers, Max Sanchez, Dillon Shu, and William Zhang finishing first in the 200 medley relay (1:54.76). Reid McBoyle took first in the 100 backstroke (1:05.38.) Girls’ Swimming Big Blue dominated the pool on Tues., Jan. 10, defeating Ridge 118 to 52. Claire O’Mara broke the school record in the 400-freestyle (4:29.13) by over five seconds. Boys’ Wrestling Brandon Spellman, Thomas Tarantino, and Frankie Dillon all advanced to the finals of the Somerset County Wrestling Tournament on Saturday. Big Blue was defeated by Delaware Valley Regional High School, 52-15, on Tues., Jan. 10. .
