Discography of the Mainstream Label
Discography of the Mainstream Label Mainstream was founded in 1964 by Bob Shad, and in its early history reissued material from Commodore Records and Time Records in addition to some new jazz material. The label released Big Brother & the Holding Company's first material in 1967, as well as The Amboy Dukes' first albums, whose guitarist, Ted Nugent, would become a successful solo artist in the 1970s. Shad died in 1985, and his daughter, Tamara Shad, licensed its back catalogue for reissues. In 1991 it was resurrected in order to reissue much of its holdings on compact disc, and in 1993, it was purchased by Sony subsidiary Legacy Records. 56000/6000 Series 56000 mono, S 6000 stereo - The Commodore Recordings 1939, 1944 - Billy Holiday [1964] Strange Fruit/She’s Funny That Way/Fine and Mellow/Embraceable You/I’ll Get By//Lover Come Back to Me/I Cover the Waterfront/Yesterdays/I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues/I’ll Be Seeing You 56001 mono, S 6001 stereo - Begin the Beguine - Eddie Heywood [1964] Begin the Beguine/Downtown Cafe Boogie/I Can't Believe That You're in Love with Me/Carry Me Back to Old Virginny/Uptown Cafe Boogie/Love Me Or Leave Me/Lover Man/Save Your Sorrow 56002 mono, S 6002 stereo - Influence of Five - Hawkins, Young & Others [1964] Smack/My Ideal/Indiana/These Foolish Things/Memories Of You/I Got Rhythm/Way Down Yonder In New Orleans/Stardust/Sittin' In/Just A Riff 56003 mono, S 6003 stereo - Dixieland-New Orleans - Teagarden, Davison & Others [1964] That’s A- Plenty/Panama/Ugly Chile/Riverboat Shuffle/Royal Garden Blues/Clarinet -

Kristie Verheul, the head of the Calgary police economic crimes unit, says organized crime and the reorganization of police resources are factors in a 60 percent increase in car thefts during 2015. The surge in stolen vehicles began in December 2014 and affects the entire city, with about 5,000 vehicles reported stolen this year compared to about 3,000 in 2014. Police say the increase can be blamed on several factors but are primarily tied it to other crimes, including organized crime. “Vehicle crime tends to facilitate other crimes,” said Verheul. “Overall we are seeing an increase in property crimes across the board.” That means once they’re stolen, the vehicles are used for transportation – moving drugs, guns and stolen goods around – as well as committing further crimes like robberies. -
A Family. Murder. Revenge. the Mob. Bad Blood Was a Canadian Mafia Tale Waiting to Be Told
A Family. Murder. Revenge. The Mob. Bad Blood was a Canadian mafia tale waiting to be told. How writers Michael Konyves and Simon Barry turned the epic true crime story into a hit series. By Matthew Hays It’s not every day that a writer wakes up to learn that Snoop Dogg has tweeted high praise for their show. Bad Blood scribe Michael Konyves says he’ll never forget it. “I couldn’t quite believe it,” he recalls, sounding like he might still be in shock. “We were certainly glad for the additional attention it brought the show.” That social media hit led to more attention for Bad Blood, the series about Montreal’s legendary Rizzuto Family and the evolution of the city’s 1990s mob scene, with all its associated assassinations and incarcerations. The show, currently in its second season, has proven to be a slow burn, launching in 2017 on Citytv in Canada and FX in the U.S. to solid reviews and respectable numbers. The Toronto Star’s Tony Wong even went as far as to liken it to Cardinal and The Sopranos. That’s definitely not shabby company to keep, but it wasn’t until Netflix began streaming it last December that Bad Blood started gaining real momentum — the aforementioned Snoop Dogg-attracting momentum, to be exact. Simon Barry knew the Rizzuto Family story was meant for the screen when production company New Metric Media approached him with the idea. It had purchased the rights to the acclaimed book Business or Blood: Mafia Boss Vito Rizzuto’s Last War, penned by journalists Antonio Nicaso and Peter Edwards. -

Some 25 cars – mostly Lexus and Toyota models collectively worth more than $800,000 – were stolen from driveways in various Ottawa neighborhoods from April to September, 2014, according to police. Six of the stolen vehicles were found in shipping containers at the Port of Montreal while the other stolen vehicles had already been shipped overseas, sold domestically, or dismantled for parts. In total, the two men face almost 100 counts of vehicle theft, possession of break-in instruments, theft over $5,000, attempted theft, and possession of property obtained by crime. -
