We are known for our ethnic and denominational diversity, with more than 4,000 students joining our community from 70 countries and more than 100 denominations. Since its founding by radio evangelist Charles E. Fuller in 1947, Fuller Seminary has equipped students to be leaders with a mind for scholarship and heart for the gospel. Under the authority of Scripture we seek to fulfill our commitment to ministry through graduate education, professional development, and spiritual formation. In all of our activities, including instruction, nurture, worship, service, research, and publication, Fuller Theological Seminary strives for excellence in the service of Jesus Christ, under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, to the glory of the Father. Institutional Student Learning Outcomes Fuller Theological Seminary continues to develop an academic posture of learning-centered education. We as a faculty, staff, and administration are committed to providing the highest level of educational effectiveness possible through a healthy “culture of assessment.” This culture includes institution goals above and beyond accreditation standards, regular program review, and clear communication of criteria and standards to students, creating equal accountability between the student, faculty and the pedagogy. Student Learning Outcomes are articulated by each academic program and for each course. The Institutional Learning Outcomes are as follows: • Graduates will demonstrate an understanding of Christian theology, ministry, and spirituality • Graduates will be aware of and critically engage ecclesial, societal, and global issues from Christian theological perspectives and demonstrate the ability to make informed choices toward positive change • Graduates will demonstrate the ability to identify critical issues of diversity and make appropriate responses • Graduates will be able to pursue careers consistent with their education The Mission Beyond The Mission In 1983 Fuller Theological Seminary issued the Mission Beyond the Mission document, addressing a broad range of moral and ethical issues from the perspective of our foundational mission and purpose. Institutional Commitments Fuller Theological Seminary | 2019-2020 Page !4 of !236 FULLER THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY IS COMMITTED TO THE FOLLOWING PRINCIPLES ACADEMIC FREEDOM In the pursuit of truth before God, faculty members are free to express, in their writing, speaking, teaching, and activities, their individual positions. While free to develop, change, and accept any academic position, the unique task of the institution requires that the ultimate positions of faculty members not be at variance with the basic theological stance of the community as set forth in the Statement of Faith and other official statements derived from it and approved by vote of the faculty and board. Fuller recognizes that as its faculty members pursue their respective disciplines, scholarship will create a healthy and dynamic tension which Fuller must encourage. Therefore: Faculty members are entitled to full freedom in research and in the publication of the results within their fields of academic competence. Faculty members are entitled to freedom in their classrooms to address matters within the general subject area implied by the course title and description. Faculty members are free as individuals and as citizens to speak and write about matters, whether or not the matters are directly related to theology. While Fuller will not limit individual expression in any respect, faculty members should avoid the impression that they are speaking for the seminary. Faculty members have the freedom to entertain positions which stand in an uncertain relationship to our community's Statement of Faith, but each member must realize that the faculty as a whole, and not its individual faculty members, has the task of interpreting the Statement of Faith. If the community finds that a given position is consonant with the Statement of Faith, the community has a responsibility to protect the academic freedom of the individuals involved against any attacks from the public or from some segment of the seminary constituency. If a faculty member believes that a peer has separated from the theological community at Fuller by publicly advocating a position clearly at variance with the Statement of Faith and Fuller's unique academic task, the faculty member should first approach that colleague directly and privately for clarification. If this attempt is not successful, then the two faculty members should request the aid of their dean(s) within the community to attempt such clarification. If after faculty discussion a faculty member remains convinced that a position is correct, even though it is at variance with Fuller's theological stance, that member has the right to attempt to change the Statement of Faith. The process of change must follow the procedures established for that purpose in the seminary's Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws. If attempts for such changes do not receive the community's support, however, Fuller expects that a faculty member will act with integrity and leave the community rather than act in opposition to the community's confessional stance. Any faculty colleague, however, does have the right to a full hearing and investigation by the Board of Trustees, according to the procedures stated in the seminary's Bylaws and Faculty Handbook, with the understanding that the outcome of such a process may still require a severance of the relationship for the sake and interests of both parties. Fuller Theological Seminary | 2019-2020 Page !5 of !236 Students are not required to subscribe to the Statement of Faith and are free to learn and to take reasoned exception to the data or views offered in the Fuller community. In their public expressions students and student organizations should make clear that they speak only for themselves. Faculty members are responsible for safeguarding the academic freedom of their students to learn by encouraging free inquiry into controversial issues, presenting alternative viewpoints, refraining from undue influence of the process of learning, taking dissenting student opinion seriously, and offering a forum for discussion. Abstract This thesis studies the identity, context and features of Pentecostalism in Rajasthan, India as well as the internal and external issues facing Pentecostals. It argues for an indigenous origin of Pentecostalism in Rajasthan, as it is a product of local Spirit revivals in the existing churches and the missionary activities of Indian Pentecostals. It also reveals that both the intra-church as well as extra- church issues place Pentecostals in a ‘missio-ethical dilemma.’ The thesis aims to suggest ‘a contextual missiology of the Spirit,’ as a new model of contextual missiology from a Pentecostal perspective, which has emerged from this study. The inherent theological characteristics of Pentecostalism underline the pneumatological foundation of a contextual Pentecostal missiology. As a contextual missiology of the Spirit it has certain contextual features.

  • Exploring a Contextual Theology of Missio Dei for the Missiological Reconciliation of the Korean Protestant Church
    Abstract of TOWARD A THEOLOGY OF PAREO DEI : EXPLORING A CONTEXTUAL THEOLOGY OF MISSIO DEI FOR THE MISSIOLOGICAL RECONCILIATION OF THE KOREAN PROTESTANT CHURCH Musung Jung This study explores a contextual theology of missio Dei through filial piety that is termed pareo Dei , in Latin, ‘the obeying of God.’ The Korean Protestant church is missiologically polarized between progressives and conservatives in their reductionist approaches to God’s salvation and mission, which is decidedly related to the missio Dei concept that the former exclusively utilized in its minjung theological movement and the latter antagonistically labeled missional radicalism in its heaven-bound Great Commission mentality. With attention to the holistic vision of the original and biblical missio Dei , the researcher introduces a holistic missio Dei to the whole Korean Protestant church via theological contextualization, so that its age-old missiological polarity might be overcome. In the making of p areo Dei , Andrew Walls’ pilgrim and indigenous principle serves as the overarching conceptual framework, Stephen Bevans’ synthetic model as a primary typological framework, and Robert Schreiter’s nine-process map as a concrete navigational framework. The dissertation is comprised of six chapters with interdisciplinary approaches. Chapter 1 is a preliminary study of the contextual theological project, stating the research background, problem, and questions as well as its thesis and methodology. Historical studies of missio Dei are the focus of the next two chapters: its diachronic developments in the worldwide Protestant movements in chapter 2 and in the Korean Protestant church in chapter 3. This comparative research shows that the dissemination of a holistic missio Dei to the whole Korean Protestant church is a key to its missiological reconciliation and cooperation as in the case of the worldwide Protestant movements.
