A NOTE FROM THE PASTOR

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

FAREWELL FR. INNOCENT: This past Wednesday, June 23rd, Fr. Innocent left for Nigeria. Part of his preparation to become part of the Diocese of Rockville Centre is to return home to take care of necessary paperwork and to secure permission from his superior to advance in this quest. Please keep Fr. Innocent in your prayers in the weeks ahead during this important process.

WELCOME FR. MARIUSZ GORAZD: I am delighted that Barres has made the decision to assign Fr. Mariusz to St. James Parish. Fr. Mariusz is from Poland. He recently celebrated the 15th Anniversary of his to the Priesthood. In 2015 Fr. Mariusz came to the Diocese of Rockville Centre, most recently serving as the Administrator of St. Ladislaus in Hempstead. Welcome, Fr. Mariusz! We are delighted that you are here with us. May the Lord bless your priestly ministry here at St. James!

LATEST COVID PROTCOLS: On June 16th all pastors received the latest protocols, which were effective immediately, lifting all State mandated restrictions:

1) Masks are now optional, especially, for those who are fully vaccinated.

2) The priests, deacons and Eucharistic Ministers will no longer be wearing masks for the distribution of Holy Communion but will sanitize our hands to reassure everyone coming forward to receive.

3) There are no social distancing requirements, and we are now permitted 100% occupancy. Our church holds around 800 people. We are presently experiencing around 25% of capacity in attendance at each of the weekend Masses.

4) There are no restrictions on the use of missalettes, hymnals and bulletins. We are presently considering how and when to bring these back.

THE OBLIGATION TO ATTEND MASS: The obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation will resume on August 15, 2021. Starting August 15th everyone will once again be under the obligation to attend Mass unless prevented from doing so due to a serious illness or personal circumstance out of their control. Are you ready? Please join us next Sunday!

Thank you everyone for following the protocols given to us by Bishop Barres in response to the directives given to him by the Office of the Governor. Your cooperation has allowed us to get to these most recent and welcomed changes.

What’s happening in Faith Formation?

As we continue to come to the Eucharist each Sunday, may we be nourished for the summer months ahead. May we come to have the faith of the both Jairus and the woman who touched the hem of Jesus’ cloak in today’s Gospel.

The Faith Formation Office is currently on Summer Schedule. If you need to come in for any reason please make an appointment.

We are continuing to work on Registration for the fall and remind all our returning families that if you have not done so you should be registering for next year. We will be holding In-person classes this coming year with special virtual classes for those with medical issues. To ensure the safety of all we are once again using a Cohort model (one week in person, one week doing assignments on Google Classroom).

If you have a child entering 1st grade in September you should be registering them for Faith Formation as well. Remember it is a 2 year process to receive first sacraments Reconciliation or Communion.

We take this opportunity to wish Fr. Innocent a safe trip back to his home and a quick return to our diocese. We will miss you!

We remind our 1st grade parents to sign up for our Coffee and Tea Parent meetings this summer. An email with a link to the google form was sent to all 1st grade parents last week. If you did not receive an invitation please call us and let us know.

We will be holding a Virtus Training session this summer for all who volunteer in parish ministry, if you need to take this training keep a look out in the bulletin for that date and time.

Wishing you all a Blessed, Safe and Healthy Summer!

It is summer! The days are longer, the weather is warmer, and eve- ryone is excited for some rest and relaxation. Even though students are on a “break” from the official school calendar, that doesn’t mean the work needs to stop. Now is the perfect time to keep up on the material they’ve been learning and also to find some time to dig a bit deeper into their faith. What questions do teens really have about their faith? Why did Jesus hang around with those who were- n’t considered popular or elite in society? Why did no one listen to ancient prophets? What do we know about Mary or Joseph after the birth if Jesus? There are so many questions, and so many con- versations that could be had during these summer months! It is a perfect way to get you and your teen, not only back into the Church for this information, but into Youth Ministry where we discuss and unpack these topics. We help our teens grow deeper in their faith by having a safe space to ask questions and explore. And during the summer months, we even get to go on Field Trips! So if any of this sounds interesting, we meet Sundays at 6:00pm in Room 208 of the Parish Center. During the week, our Youth Ministry Leaders can be found in the Faith Formation Office.

Youth Ministry Interview of the Month Did you guess James Prince as our interviewee of the month? James is currently a sophomore in high school and was recently in- ducted into the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Additionally, James is an altar server at our Parish. James has been an active member of Youth Ministry since we began back in 2019; he even got his broth- er Christian to join us! While James wasn’t entirely sure at first, he definitely felt a reason to come back each week and has grown stronger in his faith! James’s favorite memory is from last summer when we had the water games and they all surprised Nick and threw water balloons at him. Nick never saw it coming! James’s ad- vice to anyone interested in joining is to just see what happens!

June 27 - Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time: In today’s Gospel we see how in faith, Jarius asked Jesus to heal his daughter and how Jesus then answered his prayer. In prayer we also come to know that we are loved by God, and in that trust we ask for healing for ourselves, our loved ones and all those who are suffering. This week, please join with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in praying for the healing of all those who are ill and especially those who have no one to pray for them.
