Classical Museum At the heart of teaching and research in the School of Classics, this is a 120m2 active research space that houses the largest collection of Classical antiquities on display in Ireland. UCD Archives UCD Archives is an important archive of political and cultural records extending from the Middle Ages to the present. The archives include the private papers of Eamon De Valera, Conor Cruise O’Brien and John A. Costello, and provide a wealth of resources about key events in Irish history, such as the Anglo-Irish Treaty 1921 and records of Dáil debates since its inception. ucd.ie/archives

UCD Special Collections These collections span printed materials, manuscripts and archival material, dating from the 15th century. Focusing on historical literature, Celtic studies and Irish language, this includes the Franciscan Collection of 5000 early printed books; the Curran Collection of early 20th century Anglo- Irish Literature, and collections of modern Irish writers including: Patrick Kavanagh, Maeve Binchy, Edna O’Brien and Frank McGuinness. APPLYING TO UCD There are many routes into UCD Arts and Humanities. We welcome students from more than 130 different countries.

50 DOMESTIC APPLICATIONS Irish Leaving Certificate Applicants Admission for students taking the Irish Leaving Certificate is through the CAO. To be eligible for any course, applicants must present at least six recognized subjects. Applicants must have a minimum of Grade H5 in two subjects and a minimum of Grade O6/H7 in the remaining four subjects. Irish, English and a third language are required subjects*

Mature Applicants A mature applicant is anyone who is at least 23 years of age on 1 January of the proposed year of entry. For admission in September 2020, your date of birth must be on or before 1 January 1997. Application is through the CAO.

University Access Courses UCD offers access courses, which prepare adult learners for third level study. The UCD Access Courses to Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Law APPLYING guarantees entry to BA Joint Honours and BA Humanities, once criteria are met. Go to www.ucd.ie/all/study for details.

Higher Education Access Route (HEAR) The Higher Education Access Route (HEAR) scheme offers places on TO UCD reduced points and extra college support to school leavers from socio- economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Those who are under the age of 23 as of 1 January 2020 and resident in the Republic of Ireland, may apply.

Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) DARE is for school leavers (under 23 years old of 1 January 2020) who have the ability to benefit from and succeed in higher education, but who may not meet the points for their preferred course due to the impact of a disability. Entry with QQI-FET qualification All Arts and Humanities programmes have reserved places for applicants with appropriate QQI-FET (Level 5 or 6) qualifications and modules. Applicants must have a minimum of distinction in five modules and are admitted on a competitive basis.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICATIONS A-Level applicants Passes in six recognized subjects at A-level are required for entry. Two of those must be grade C or higher. Applicants from Britain and Northern Ireland are generally exempt from the requirement of presenting Irish.

EU/EEA applicants EU applicants apply through the CAO and must meet the same minimum entry requirements as Irish CAO school leavers. Applications can be made online at www.cao.ie . The normal closing date is 1 February 2020, but there is a reduced application fee for applications made prior to 20 January 2020. 52 The Choral Scholars of University College Dublin Each year Ireland’s leading collegiate choir, the Choral Scholars, offers 18 choral scholarships (€1,500) to talented singers from across all academic programmes. These scholars represent Ireland and the university at major events, on radio and on TV, and work with leading musicians and composers both at home and on tour abroad. Auditions take place in September each year, and successful applicants have the option to take the programme for credit. UCD Symphony Orchestra Scholarships Following auditions each September, 20 scholarships are awarded to talented students taking up key positions within the UCD Symphony Orchestra. The SCHOLARSHIPS orchestra performs at major venues in Dublin, such as the Convention Centre, Bord Gáis Energy Theatre and National Concert Hall, and regularly engages in collaborations with other universities throughout Europe. There are opportunities to work with celebrated soloists and in sectional rehearsals with principals from the RTÉ orchestras.
