Abd El Atf·3 1Department of Toxicology and Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University, 12211-Giza, Egypt 2Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Konkuk University, Seou/143-701, Korea 30epartment of Pharmacology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University, 12211-Giza, Egypt (Received August 4, 2008; Revised November 3, 2008; Accepted November 3, 2008) This study was carried out to measure the concentration of heavy metals (Pb, Mn, Cr, Cd, Ni, Zn, and Cu) in water and Bolti fish (Tilapia nilotica) samples collected from Rasheed branch of River Nile, north of EI-Giza Governorate, Egypt by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The investigated districts through which the branch passes include EI-Manashi, Gezzaya, El Katta, Abo Ghaleb and Wardan. Based on WHO and FAO safety reference standards, the results of the current study showed that water and fish tissues were found to contain heavy metals at significantly variable con centration levels among the investigated districts. They were polluted with respect to all the metals tested at Gezzaya district. However, the levels of analyzed metals in water and fish tissues were found lower than legal limits in other districts. The heavy metals showed differential bioaccumulation in fish tissues of the different districts as the accumulation pattern (as total heavy metal residues) was district dependant as follow: Gezzaya > Wardan > El Katta > Abo Ghaleb > El Manashi. -

Abdulaziz Mining, Petroleum, and Metallurgical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, Giza, Egypt ( [email protected]) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABSTRACT: The study area represents the western extension of the Nile Delta flood plain at the contact of the desert, where the importance of ground water is rising. This requires a thorough understanding to the developed groundwater systems, particularly the shallow aquifers. In this study, well log data was integrated to a Vertical Electric Sounding (VES) survey acquired using Schlumberger configuration at the Khatatba area to characterize the aquifer systems. The results were interpreted using the published stratigraphic data of the study area, and consequently the extension of the identified aquifers can be laterally correlated. Two aquifer systems separated by an aquitard or basaltic layer were mapped and characterized in details. The upper aquifer corresponds to El Khashab formation that produces fresh to brackish water and generally shows unconfined condition that could locally change to partially semi confined. Copyright: This is an open access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution International License (CC BY). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Abstract Aim: The aim of study was to evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmacological nursing intervention programs on female patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Design: A quasi-experimental design was used in this study. Methods: Pre-post follow-up assessment of outcome was used in this study. The study was conducted in the inpatient and outpatient clinics of rheumatology and rehabilitation at Zagazig University Hospitals, Egypt. Results: There was a significant improvement in knowledge and practice of patients with RA in the post and follow-up phase of the program in the intervention group. In addition, the patients showed a high level of independence regarding ability to perform ADL. There was a statistically significant decrease in disability for patients in the intervention group. Conclusion: It is recommended that non-pharmacological intervention programs be implemented for patients with RA in different settings to help reduce the number of patients complaining of pain and disability. The Data on Periodical (Weekly) Market at the End of the 19th Century in Egypt -The cases of Qaliubiya, Sharqiya and Daqahliya Provinces Hiroshi Kato Some geographers and historians are concerned with periodical market, which they define as the place of economic transactions peculiar to so called "peasant society. In Egypt, which is, as well known, a typical hydraulic society, periodical market, that is weekly market (α1- siiq al-usbu i) in the Islamic world, still has the important economic functions in rural areas at the present, as well as it had in the past. The author is now collecting the data on Egyptian weekly market from the 19th century to the present, based upon source materials on one hand, and field research on the other. The aim of this paper is to present some statistical and ge0- graphical data on Egyptian weekly market at the end of the 19th century to the researchers who are interested in periodical market in agrarian society, before the intensive study, which the author is planning in the future, on the economic functions of Egyptian weekly market and their transformation in the process of the modernization of Egyptian society. The source material from which the data are collected is A. Boinet, Geographie Econ0- mique et Administrative de I'Egypte, Basse-Egypte I, Le Caire, 1902. It is the results of the population census in 1897 and the agrarian census maybe took in 1898 and 1899, being annexed to the population census in the previous year. The data are arranged village by village, and contain the statistics on cultivated area, crops, planted trees, animals, industry, traffic by rail- road, and transportation by the Nile and canals, and the descriptive informations and remarks on school, canal, railroad, market, post office and so on.
