Kindness. Respect. Integrity. Teamwork Headteacher's Newsletter KINDNESS. RESPECT. INTEGRITY. TEAMWORK HEADTEACHER’S NEWSLETTER 31st January 2020 Dear Parents/Carers We are now into the full swing of the new term and after what seems like a very long January we are at last beginning to feel the benefits of the lighter evenings and see a glimpse of spring on the way. Our Year 11 students have received the results of their trial examinations, which they sat just before the Christmas break, and have now just ELEVEN weeks in school before the start of their final GCSE examinations. After school revision sessions are available, which will enhance and support their revision at home. The next Parents’ evenings are for Year 8 on Thursday 6th February, followed by Year 11 on Thursday 13th February. You may remember that on 14th January we held an additional training day to enable all of our teaching staff to attend the training event 'School improvement through creative curriculum design'. I'd like to take the opportunity to thank parents for their support with this. The day has been pivotal in helping us develop our curriculum to provide an exciting, coherent and inspirational learning experience that celebrates and nurtures the diverse talents of all our students to ensure they will be confident, independent learners, who are well prepared for the next phase of their lives. Mr T Cartmail Headteacher High 5’s Visit A group of Year 9 students visited the Stephen Joseph Theatre recently for a series of workshops focusing on building confidence and they debated on the pros and cons of attending university. Thinking ahead to preparing for the future and life beyond secondary school, our Year 9s worked with students from other schools in the Scarborough area to come up with a presentation to share at the end of the session. Mr Walker who led the visit reported that our Year 9s showed a mature attitude to thinking about their futures and were a credit to Ebor. SEND Coffee Morning – Meet the new SENDCO Mrs Turlington, our SENDCO, leaves us at the end of this half term for pastures new, and whilst we are very sorry to be saying Goodbye and extend our huge thanks to her for the great work she has done here, we are also looking forward to welcoming our new SENDCO, Miss O’Neill to Ebor Academy Filey. Parents of children who receive support from the SEND department have been invited to attend a coffee morning on Wednesday 12th February for an opportunity to meet Miss O’Neill, before she takes over the reins after half term. If you are attending, we ask that you please let Mrs Hinchliffe know by emailing [email protected] or return the reply slip which was enclosed with the invitation letter; this is to ensure we cater for enough guests. Donation to the Salvation Army A huge thanks to students, parents and staff for your generous donations at our Christmas Concert and the Staff Talent Show at the end of last term. We are delighted to say that £187.26 has been donated to The Salvation Army, Filey Branch, and they have since written to say “We are truly grateful for the support locally and especially thankful for the effort your young people have made.” Visit from Filey Infants School We welcomed Year 1 students from Filey CE Nursery and Infants Academy in to our school library last term for an afternoon. They spent their time with our Health and Social Care students where they enjoyed sharing their love of books. Not a few of you may be tempted to agree with him as, at the end of another busy school year and in a rather stuffy Sports Centre, you see me once again rise to deliver my annual Commemoration report. However, I hope that you will not find the proceedings too tedious:, this is an important if final occasion in the school calendar which allows us to welcome honoured visitors, to be edified by our guest of honour's words, to thank those who have done so much to make the year successful and to note the many and varied achievements of our pupils in academic and in other areas. My first duty is to tell you of the Dean's regrets in being unable this year to preside at Commemoration. However, I I am thereby provided with the opportunity of thanking you, Mr.
