General Conference Background

The 2011 Biosolids/Industrial Pretreatment Conference is scheduled to occur September 27 and 28, 2011 in Kalamazoo. This will be a unique conference, designed to exhibit the cause/effect relationship that professionals in both biosolids and industrial pretreatment have with/among one another. The working environment of tomorrow will be one that stresses communication, collaboration and consolidation. The power of collaboration is evident in this 2011 Conference, as both MWEA committees have worked together to develop a new, different and creative conference. By combining resources, it is hoped that the conference will have a larger than normal target audience (100-125 attendees, not including speakers and other vendors), allowing vendors and sponsors greater opportunity to present their products. Marketing for the conference will target those individuals who have previously attended IPP and Biosolids Conferences, wastewater management officials/regulators as well as those from surrounding states and all MWEA members.

The Conference is scheduled to be held at the Clarion Hotel in Kalamazoo. The hotel rooms were renovated in 2010, and the meeting/banquet rooms will be remodeled by the 2011 Conference. The Conference is a slightly longer version of the typical biosolids conference timeline that vendors and attendees have come to expect and enjoy. A 4-hour evening dinner reception will be held at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, where vendors and attendees will be able to interact and dine beneath the wings of the SR-71 Blackbird. Dozens of airplanes ranging from current military fighters to early training aircraft to helicopters are also at the facility. Attendees will be able to dogfight in flight simulators, ride in a space shuttle, view a 4-D movie and participate in other rides. Please visit www.airzoo.org to learn more about the Air Zoo facility.
