WALKERVILLE NEWS

AROUND THE GROUNDS Round 6 completed the first half of the season. The weather ran havoc with the second week seeing the entire Turf competition called off. This gave the players the opportunity to enjoy the hospitality of the clubs sponsor the Sussex hotel. The first day had a reverse of fortunes for the A’s and B’s. Both teams were in strong positions against Walkerville’s rival club Payenham. The A’s rolled a confident Payenham for 184 with Iggy Mareolas doing the damage with the ball taking 4 . The A’s Panz shows his text book action as he lets another were 3/78 over night. The B’s were in a similar position big turner rip. of strength knocking over Payenham for 154 and were 2/50. Darcy‘ I Love ABBA’ tore the heart out of the opposition with his 5 haul. An undermaned C grade side struggled against Fulham loosing on the first day after making 82 and then having Fulham 3/115. A young D grade were in deep trouble against Payenham being knocked over for very low scores twice. Payenham chased down the runs but fell 2 runs short of the outright on the day. Captain Neil Powell stood his ground, making Payenham come back next week to finish the game. Unlucky for this Payenham team, it rained! Matho sends yet another ball to the boundary The clubs social calendar has been released so please take note of programmed events. These events are varied with many of them including partners and friends. This Saturday is the past players day at the club. This is where former Walkerville players can catch up and relive the glory days of old. Friday the 11th is the first of these activities with a movie night (The Golden Compass). This is a joint fundraiser between the Softball club and the cricket club. The more people that come to this movie the more money the clubs will receive.

Lets make the second half of the season a success one with results on the field and enjoyment off! Darcy showing the style that snared him 5 wickets “Go the Cats!” against Payneham. Leo Panzarino

MORTGAGE FORCE TWENTY20 SEMI FINAL Another victory to the Mortgage Force marauders. Poor SPOC didnt know what hit them. Confusion with baby sitting duties meant we looked like lining up 1 short but thanks to CJ for filling the breach we had plenty of numbers. Bowling still looking a little light on so we opened the bowling with the wily old fox, MG, from one end and the new recruit, CJ, from the other. MG as tight as ever but CJ was having a little trouble Grumpy ready to take up the attack to the bowlers controlling the pill and conceeded 38 runs with 6 wides off his 4 overs. Lucky he rebounded latter with the bat or sledging may have been plentiful. Panz, Yodel and Darcy rounded off our bowlers - not exactly what you would call an express pace line up. Thought we were in trouble when Moller sweated up like a race horse after his first over but he was obviously just getting into stride. But for some very interesting catching efforts the fielding was ok. Hincksman after an uncharacteristic dropped chance discovered that the best way to catch was in fact to duck your head and not actually look at the ball. A rare photo of BJ playing on the on side. (True to form he missed it and got ) The batting pretty much went to plan with Moller and RUMOUR MILL Matho looking steady, although there was some grumbling in the stands about Mathiesons pace. Mathos departure bought CJ to the crease and he and Yodel started to fire up. Things were flying when a mini collapse saw us at 5 for needing about 20 more. Never in real doubt as Reid and Moller saw us over the line. The Schofferhoffer award went to our first dual recpient - the boy from the bush - Adam Moller
