DQSF Grandstand Announcement For Immediate Release: Contacts: June 15, 2018 Rebecca Clark (217) 558-1546 Morgan Booth (217) 785-5485 PHIL VASSAR AND LOVE AND THEFT ROUND OUT THE DU QUOIN STATE FAIR GRANDSTAND Kendell Marvel to open for Brothers Osborne; Bishop Gunn to open for Blackberry Smoke Du Quoin, IL – Phil Vassar with Love and Theft will be rounding out the Du Quoin State Fair grandstand by playing on Saturday, September 1. “We’re thrilled to have Phil Vassar close out the grandstand at the Du Quoin State Fair,” says Assistant State Fair Manager, Tibretta Reiman. “This year features an eclectic lineup and Phil Vassar fits a perfect niche in the lineup.” With hits like “Carlene,” “Last Day of My Life,” and “Just Another Day in Paradise” everyone is sure to have a favorite Phil Vassar song. As he is also a songwriter, you might recognize some of the artists that have picked up his songs: Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, and Jo Dee Messina to name a few. Vassar has many accolades behind his name including two ASCAP Songwriter of the Year awards and Billboard Country Songwriter of the Year, in addition to his own label, Rodeowave Entertainment. “Songs should evoke something, whether it makes you happy and puts you in a good mood, or makes you cry and feel desperation…you know, whether you’re going through a marriage, or a divorce, or you’re in love or you hate somebody, or whatever it is… songs should evoke something,” says Vassar. (-more-) Du Quoin State Fair August 24 – September 3 www.duquoinstatefair.net VASSAR/2222 Love and Theft already has a number 1 hit, “Angel Eyes” and a Top 10 hit “Runaway”, but they are looking to add to those accomplishments. In the six years they’ve been recording together, Stephen Barker Liles and Eric Gunderson, have achieved milestones together, both personally and professionally, and their music reflects that. Bishop Gunn will be opening for Blackberry Smoke on Saturday, August 25. The group has been doing non-stop touring, festivals, and opening for other acts recently. The Mississippi natives named their first album Natchez, which also happens to be their hometown. Listeners can expect to hear a mix of rock and roll, soul, and blues from these guys. In May 2018, Rolling Stone Magazine listed them as one of the “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know”. Southern Illinois native, Kendell Marvel, will be opening for Bothers Osborne on Tuesday, August 28. Already armed with song writing awards for some of the biggest names in country including Chris Stapleton, Jamey Johnson, Jake Owen, and perhaps his most well know, “Right Where I Need to Be” by Gary Allan, Marvel has his sights set on his own album. His debut solo album Lowdown & Lonesome combines his down home country roots with some rock and roll vibes. Tickets for Phil Vassar / Love and Theft will go on sale via ticketmaster.com on Saturday, June 16 at 10 am and via the Du Quoin State Fair box office on Monday, June 18 at 9:00 am. Tickets for all previously announced concerts are currently on sale. PERFORMED IDENTITIES: HEAVY METAL MUSICIANS BETWEEN 1984 AND 1991 Bradley C. Klypchak A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2007 Committee: Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Dr. John Makay Graduate Faculty Representative Dr. Ron E. Shields Dr. Don McQuarie © 2007 Bradley C. Klypchak All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

  • Comment Submitted by Ben Jones, Torrentfreak
Comments submitted to FTC DRM Town Hall – Comment, Project No. P094502 February 2009 Page 1/5 TorrentFreak.com DRM Town Hall – Comment, Project No. P094502 Summary The intent of Digital Rights Management (or DRM) is for the originator of the work, to attempt to control the ways in which the work can be used, after sale or license. Most often, these take the form of copy restrictions, but can include restrictions in other ways. Ultimately, DRM is an all-or-none measure, that seeks to control, without reference to context. A backup copy is allowed in many jurisdictions, while copying for the purposes of copyright infringement is not. However, both will be restricted by DRM. Many audio disc copy protection systems (which are DRM) utilise bad sectors to cause faults when copying is attempted, but which can also regular playback in some devices. Other methods might include using computer autoplay systems to install software to prevent copying, but which can leave systems vulnerable to malicious code. It is thus gratifying that the Federal Trade Commission sees fit to consider the impact on consumers of DRM, and we welcome the opportunity to highlight, for the commission, our experiences of DRM, and it's impact on consumers. We have split this response by category of media, to reflect the differing methods and approaches used in each sector of industry. Films Standard DVDs contain two forms of DRM; region coding, and Content Scrambling System (CSS). The former is used to limit the geographical regions where such discs can be played, the latter attempts to prevent copying.

January 20, 2015, Issue 431 Decent Exposure: Too Much TV? If it seems like every time you turn on the TV there’s another awards show, you’re right. A quick, unofficial count reveals nearly 20 opportunities a year for artists to get valuable screen time on either country or all-genre shows. Add to that the myriad of daytime and late night talk shows and the number jumps to nearly 40. When is enough enough ... or even too much? Country Aircheck asked Sony/Nashville Chairman/CEO Gary Overton, Warner Music Nashville’s SVP/Publicity Wes Vause, Spalding Entertainment’s Clarence Spalding (Jason Aldean, Rascal Flatts) and The Green Room Owner/Publicist Mary Hilliard Harrington (Aldean, Lady Antebellum) to find out how they create “must see TV” while protecting their artists from overexposure. “Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley get asked to All Saints: Mercury’s Canaan Smith (c) celebrates a day do everything under the sun,” says Overton. well spent at the Country Cares for St. Jude seminar with “I speak with their managers at least once a (l-r) The Country Club with Dee Jay Silver’s Keith Kaufman, Gary Overton week. So many times whether it’s the timing WGH/Norfolk’s Dave Paulus, Curb’s Mike Rogers, Campbell Entertainment’s Craig Campbell, WGH/Norfolk’s John Shomby or another reason, the answer has to be, ‘We and Mercury’s Jack Christopher. can’t do it.’ We’re very calculated about what makes sense.” It All Begins With A Song: For top artists, the channel to television clicks on with an artist’s album cycle.
