Heefner's book, Patton's Bulldog: The Life and Service of General Walton H Walker, with a Foreword by Martin Blurnenson, is a biography of General Walker, who led the XX Corps in the vanguard of Patton's Third Army through France, Germany, and Austria in World War II, and who commanded the Eighth Army and saved the Pusan Perimeter during the Korean War. Born in Texas in 1889, Walker graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1912, served in Veracruz, Mexico in 1914, and commanded a machine gun battalion in France in 1918. He died in a vehicle accident in December 1950 in Korea. SUBJECT: The life and military career of General Walton H. Walker, 1889 to 1950. FORMS OF MATERIAL: The collection is comprised of the bound and fully annotated manuscript of Heefner's book, Patton's Bulldog: The Life and Service of General Walton H Walker. ADDITION TO THE COLLECTION: In January 2006 Dr. Heefner donated his research materials that he used for his book. These materials comprise the bulk of the collection AUTHORIDONOR: Wilson A. Heefner is a retired physician who has begun a second career as a military historian. He retired from the United States Army in the grade of colonel after forty-one years, including service as a private first class in General Walton H. Walker's Eighth Army in 1950. He holds degrees from Gettysburg College, the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and the University of Hawaii.
