Abstract Between 2017 and 2019, California experienced a series of devastating wildfires that together led over one million people to be ordered to evacuate. Due to the speed of many of these wildfires, residents across California found themselves in challenging evacuation situations, often at night and with little time to escape. These evacuations placed considerable stress on public resources and infrastructure for both transportation and sheltering. -

Office of the State Fire Marshal Doug Jorgensen Fire Marshal 800 SW Jackson, Suite 104 Topeka, KS 66612 Phone: (785) 296-3401 www.ksfm.ks.gov Kansas Fire Incident Reporting System Kansas fire departments are required under K.A.R 22-5-1 to submit a report for each incident where a response is made by that fire department, regardless of the call type or actions taken on the call. Also included in the requirements are reports for any fire service casualty, injury or death, that occurs while acting in an official role a call, responding to a call, drilling, at the station, etc. Firefighter injuries caused by equipment failures are heavily scrutinized to continue improving the safety of our Fire Service. Kansas does not have a central repository of fire reports. Instead, reports received at the Office of the State Fire Marshal are uploaded directly into the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) housed at the National Fire Data Center (NFDC) at the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA). Each year, the USFA releases the most comprehensive reference on the nature and scope of the fire problem in the United States, Fire in the United States. The agencies and departments participating in the NFIRS make the publication possible. In addition to publications, the data can highlight current and emerging trends for more than fires. A variety of different public safety groups use the information to drive improvements through regulation, creating better equipment, training, education, product recalls, and funding. -

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ News Headlines 09/09/2020 CAL FIRE California Statewide Fire Summary for Wednesday Morning, September 9, 2020 El Dorado Fire Wednesday: Containment Grows But New Evacuation Warnings In Place 1 CAL FIRE California Statewide Fire Summary for Wednesday Morning, September 9, 2020 Staff Writer, Gold Rush Cam Posted: Friday, September 9, 2020 September 9, 2020 - Yesterday, and overnight, wind conditions allowed many fires to grow significantly with extreme fire behavior. While containment on Cal firemany of last month’s lightning fires grows closer, several new wildfires ignited and were fanned by strong gusty winds. Today approximately 14,000 firefighters are battling 28 major wildfires across California. The newest fire, the Willow in Yuba County, broke out late last evening near the community of Dobbins, forcing evacuations. The Bear Fire, which is part of the North Complex, spread rapidly yesterday due to Red Flag conditions and moved towards multiple communities east of Oroville, and forced more evacuations. This year, wildfires have now burned over 2.5 million acres in California. There have been 8 fatalities and over 3,700 structures destroyed. While Red Flag Warnings remain in effect across much of the state, winds are expected to weaken as we go through the day. Wind gusts are possible up to 55mph in mountain and foothill areas. Minimum humidity will be mainly in the single digits and teens through Wednesday and will likely increase Thursday. Tomorrow, wind conditions improve and seasonal temperatures and dry conditions will persist into the weekend. Do you have a plan for all your family should a wildfire strike near you? Yolo Emergency Management Annual Report 2015-2016 Message from the Emergency Services Director The Yolo County Office of Emergency Services is the lead agency responsible for countywide emergency management services in Yolo County. The office assists with all hazards disaster preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation efforts throughout the Yolo Operational Area under a Shared Services Agreement with the cities of Davis, West Sacramento, Winters and Woodland, the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, and Yolo County Housing. I am pleased to present to you our 2015-2016 Annual Report. As you will see upon review, we have continued to strengthen our program and progress with our partners in developing a well-structured and synchronized emergency management program throughout Yolo County. We look forward to another year of ensuring that all of our communities are prepared for all hazards. Jill Cook Deputy County Administrator Mission/Vision Yolo County and its partner organizations work collectively through an organized planning, preparedness, training, mitigation and evaluation effort to ensure that all of our community is reasonably protected and prepared for all hazards. Mitigation Mitigation measures may be implemented prior to, during, or after an incident to help reduce or eliminate long-term risk to persons or property, or lessen the actual or potential effects or consequences of an incident. In 2016, Yolo County began consultations with CalOES regarding the 2018 Yolo Operational Area Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan update. A tentative schedule has been established to begin the update process with a kickoff meeting in the spring of 2017: Preparedness Since it is not possible to prevent or mitigate every hazard that poses a risk, we use preparedness measures to reduce the impact of hazards by taking certain actions before an emergency occurs. -
