PE Statement 2020 - 2021 Primrose Hill Primary School PE Statement 2020 - 2021 Date: May 2020 Review: July 2021 1 Primrose Hill Primary School PE Premium Funding Statement 2019 - 20 The government is providing additional funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools – this is allocated based on the number of children in Year 1 – 6. Last year the government once again allocated extra funds for the PE premium; this meant we have received two amounts - £8,129 & £11,404 totalling £19,533. The PE Premium funding is used to continually improve PE and Sport Provision across the school. Since the introduction of the PE premium in 2014 this has meant a huge success in raising attainment in PE and we will continue to build on our provision again this year. At Primrose Hill we already prioritise PE and sport in our budget to enhance children’s participation, involvement and attainment in PE; however, this additional sum contributes a significant amount for our school which so far has enabled us to develop the PE offer in our school. The PE premium contributes to the overall PE budget and in the financial year 2021 - 2021 will be spent in line with government recommendations for how to best utilise the funding: Provide existing staff with training or resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively: ● A full time dedicated PE Teacher and PE teaching assistant, at HLTA level, to support the expansion of the PE provision ● We continue to invest in new equipment and resources in order to introduce new sports to our children identified by the PE team Introduce new sports or activities and encourage more pupils to take up sport: ● Providing a range of sports clubs to all year groups outside of curriculum time, including, cricket, cross-country, football, athletics, netball, hockey, dodgeball, tennis and multi-skills that are led by the PE coach and PE teaching assistant ● Children in Year 6 have the opportunity to participate as Sports Captains where they model and lead KS1 sporting activities during their lunchtime and also lead the events at KS1 Sports Day ● Children take part in whole school events to raise activity - Travel Ambassadors, Walk-to-School week ● Children in Year 5 have the opportunity to do a week of Cycle Training to encourage those with 2 bikes to cycle and be safe on the roads ● Providing Parent/Carer v Teacher Netball and Dodgeball events and weekly Parent/Carer after-school football matches to encourage whole-family participation in sport and role-modelling for the children ● Investment into large scale playground equipment to increase physical exercise and strength. This includes a running track with exercise stations; new climbing equipment, balance beams, monkey bars and a playground stop watch. Hire qualified sports coaches to provide additional experiences for children outside the curriculum: ● Continuing to utilising external specialists to provide activities beyond the standard PE curriculum. These include Taekwondo, Street Dance, Fencing, Basketball, Cricket, Ballet, Yoga and Gymnastics teachers from local clubs. Run sport competitions, increase pupils’ participation in competitions and run sports activities with other schools: ● Children are identified to take part in competitive team competitions across Camden and London e.g. Camden Football, Touch-Rugby, Dodgeball and have the chance to represent Camden in the London Youth Games. ● Year 2 participate in a competition hosted by Primrose Hill Primary, where children from the Cluster schools are invited to compete . ● Children with an identified SEN participate in inclusion competitions across Camden – these include inclusion cricket, athletics and basketball. ● Children in Year 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 have timetabled swimming lessons for part of the academic year. For some year groups, this includes a coach for the journey and for others the additional benefit of a brisk walk. ● We fund our annual subscription to the CSSA (Camden School Sports Association), allowing children to compete in individual sports competitions such as Cross Country, Athletics, Swimming and Tennis in addition to the team events listed above, from which they have the opportunity to be selected to represent Camden in London-wide competitions, such as the London Youth Games (across a range of sports), the Night of 10K PBs junior relay and the Mini-Marathon. Impact of recent grant funding Staff Training 3 ● The PE Team worked alongside all class teachers to model and team each additional PE Sessions. This was part of a wider Physical Development SIP. ● One of the PE Team completed the HLTA Level 5 training. Physical Education Lessons ● This year in July our school was awarded the Healthy Schools Gold Award. ● All our children continue to receive two compulsory hours of PE each week. In addition further development of our outdoor learning facilities means that physical learning permeates across the curriculum. ● New equipment has enabled the children to develop specific skills rather than focussing on a particular sport. This has been evident in striking skills with new resources for tennis, badminton and lacrosse. ● 44 out of 57 (78%) of our Y6 children last year could confidently meet the requirements of the KS2 Swimming Curriculum. This initiative is being led by the following personnel: ● Laura Beeson (Assistant Head) ● Jordan Lawal (Level 5 PE Coach) ● Claire Cameron (Governor) 4 .

December Physical Activity Challenges 11 Introduction Welcome to the Islington Healthy Schools Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity teams' (PESSPA) Physical Activity Advent Calendar! The calendar offers children different physical activities to do throughout the advent calendar month of December. Some of the activities can be done by the children in the playground, some should be done in school time and there are also activities for the children to do at the weekends. The activities are varied and fun and there should be something for everyone, from the least to the most active. Feel free to do different activities to the ones in the calendar, the most important thing is that the children are active every day. Please encourage the children to use the calendar. You can print them and hang them in school and you can email them to parents. Encourage the children to do the activities that are both in and outside of school time and check with the children each day to see how they are getting on. You could give a certificate to any children that do ALL of the activities on the calendar, or talk about the children that have made the most progress with the activities and mention them in assemblies. Encourage the children to keep doing the activities during the school holidays and beyond. There is no reason why the teachers can’t join in with some of the activities too! We hope you have fun doing them and would love to hear about the how the children get on and would value your feedback on it.

Now in its eleventh year the awards are a mainstay of the ActiveWestminster calendar, bringing our community together to recognise and celebrate the people and organisations who help us create an Active City for All. This year’s Awards are particularly needed, as it is important to recognise and celebrate the tremendous efforts of our residents, athletes, volunteers, clubs and ActiveWestminster partners, who have continued to provide their high quality services and provision to those that have required them the most throughout the pandemic. The nominees range from residents, local clubs and schools through to ActiveWestminster partners and Westminster-based elite athletes. The standard of nominations has again, been exceptional this year and we’re extremely proud of all those who were nominated. Therefore, we’ve had to make some tough decisions in short-listing the finalists, all of whom have been recognised for the vital role they play in physical activity, leisure and/or sport by getting and keeping our residents and communities active. The hard work and dedication of all the nominees is extremely appreciated by the council, our residents and communities that we all serve.

Let us hear your compliments, suggestions or complaints: www.orleanspark.richmond.sch.uk/contact-us Weekly Entries to Website: Sixth Form Open Evening Year 7 Exam Week Timetable Tuesday 25 June 2013 London Youth Games - May 2013 Trials flyer 6pm – 9pm From the Headteacher GCSE Drama Showcase Last week the Year 11 GCSE Drama pupils performed their group examination pieces to an audience of friends and family as a final preparation for the actual GCSE examination the following day. This year the examination brief was to create a performance that would make the audience ‘think’, and the result was some very hard-hitting pieces. The pupils worked incredibly hard to perfect their plays, coming in at weekends and spending time after school rehearsing. It certainly paid off as the quality of the performances was simply outstanding and it was a hugely enjoyable evening. My thanks go to Ms Smith and Ms Davies, assisted by Mr Flowerdew, who gave up considerable amounts of time to direct and rehearse the pupils. Year 11 Leavers As the main written examinations approach we shall be formally saying goodbye to our Year 11 pupils this Friday. There will be a final assembly in the morning and then the pupils will start their formal study leave. As in previous years an extensive revision programme has been planned for the run-up to the examinations and during the examination period. A number of key pupils have been asked to attend school as normal, whilst others may choose a more flexible approach. Year 10 Pupils Our Year 10 pupils had their end of year examinations last week and we were very impressed by their attitude and application.
