Pešić: 30 August 2020 │ Published online: 7 September 2020. The Shantar Islands are located in the western part of the Sea of Okhotsk, near the eastern coast of Eurasia. They are administratively included in the Tuguro-Chumikansky district of Khabarovsk Krai of Russia. The archipelago consists of 15 large and small islands, the largest of which is the Bоlshoy Shantar.The total area of the islands is 550 thousand hectares. The entire archipelago has the status of the National Park. The islands are dominated by mountainous relief with river valleys. Heights are up to 721 m. The climate is temperate monsoon with excessive summer moisture. Strong northwest winds prevail, they delay the phenological cycles of biota by 1-1,5 months in comparison with the nearest mainland areas. The boreal component of the middle taiga subzone dominates in the flora of the archipelago. Nemoral flora is represented by single species in phytocenoses of deep valleys of the large islands (Nechaev, 1955). There are two altitudinal vegetation belts in the Shantar Islands – mountain taiga belt and subalpine altitudinal belt (mountain tundra occupies 2% of the territory). -

It is a gregarious koinobiont endoparasitoid in mature larvae of Mesosa myops (Dalman) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), a wood boring pest of many broad-leaved tree species in China, particularly Quercus mongolica and Q. liaotungensis (Fagaceae) in forest areas of northeastern China. Read Full License Page 1/28 Abstract Background: Mongolian oak forest is a deciduous secondary forest with a large distribution area in the Changbai Mountain area. The majority of longhorn beetle species feed on forest resources, The number of some species is also large, which has a potential risk for forest health, and have even caused serious damage to forests. Clarifying the distribution pattern of longhorn beetles in Mongolian oak forests is of great scientic value for the monitoring and control of some pest populations. Methods: 2018 and 2020, ying interception traps were used to continuously collect longhorn samples from the canopy and bottom of the ridge, southern slope, and northern slope of the oak forest in Changbai Mountain, and the effects of topographic conditions on the spatial distribution pattern of longhorn beetles were analyzed. Results: A total of 4090 individuals, 56 species, and 6 subfamilies of longhorn beetles were collected in two years. The number of species and individuals of Cerambycinae and Lamiinae were the highest, and the number of Massicus raddei (Blessig), Moechotypa diphysis (Pascoe), Mesosa myopsmyops (Dalman), and Prionus insularis Motschulsky was relatively abundant. -

Linsley Gressitt Of the Lingnan Natural History Survey and Museum Lingnan University, Canton, China EIGHT PLATES The present report is in the nature of a classification of the longicorn, or long-horned, beetles hitherto collected on Hainan Island, as far as available to the writer. A large part of the material on which the work has been based is included in the collections of the Lingnan Natural History Museum of Lingnan University, Canton, made on various expeditions, principally by F. K. To in 1932 and 1935, by Prof. W. E. Hoffmann, Mr. 0. K. Lau, and Dr. F. A. McClure in 1932, and by the Fifth Hainan Island Expedition of the University in 1929, as well as on col- lections made by myself on my trip (34) to the island during the summer of 1935. The remainder of the material studied includes, among others, part of the collection made by Mr. J. Whitehead in 1899, and the specimens collected by Commander G. Ros in the spring of 1936. A list of localities is given at the end, in addition to the map, in order to facilitate the identification of place names used. I am deeply grateful to Professor W. E. Approximately one third of all forest insect species worldwide depend directly or indirectly on dying or dead wood (i.e., they are saproxylic). They are a highly threatened ecological group but the status of many species remains undocumented. There is an urgent need to develop a better appreciation for the diversity and ecology of saproxylic insects so as to inform management strategies for conserving these organisms in tropical forests. Two of the historically better studied beetle groups, Cerambycidae and Buprestidae, are highlighted with a brief discussion of the methods for studying them and their ecology, and a systematic attempt to survey these two beetle groups in the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Singapore, is described. From a comparison with the historical data, it is inferred that the decline of the saproxylic insect fauna must be happening at a rate that would certainly be considered alarming if only it were more widely noticed. Finally, the implications for overall conservation of the insect fauna and of the reserve are considered. Keywords. Sharp and Muir (1912) published a work on a comprehensive survey of the organs in the Coleoptera, and discussed the phylogeny of this order. Recently, Jeannel and Paulian (1944) proposed a new system of classification of the. order, basing on not only characters generally used but also on the structure of male genitalia upon which they made a detailed comparative anatomy. On the other hand, Muir (1915, '18), Singh Pruthi (1924a, '24b) and Metcalfe (1932) reported on the development of the organs of some beetles. As regards the male genitalia of the Cerambycidae, except the works above mentioned, there have been published only a few comparative studies by Bugnion (1931) and Zia (1936). The organs of the Cerambycidae have not yet been studied in detail, and have scarcely been used as the taxonomic character. The author studying a comparative anatomy of the male genitalia of 101 Japanese species of Cerambycidae, confirmed that the results are generally coincided with the traditional classification of the group.
