Check in at the international connections desk to have your luggage checked through to Nairobi in Kenya. We advise arriving 1 and a half to 2 hours before your flight departs to allow ample time for check in and security procedures. Upon arrival in Perth it's a short walk within the terminal to the international departures, once you proceed through security you will have a couple of hours before your overnight flight to Johannesburg boards. Drive to Daphne Sheldricks orphanage. This orphanage is opened only one hour a day from 1100Hrs to 1200Hrs. It is located 8 Kilometres drive from the city centre and it is set in the Nairobi National Park. The orphanage gives you a rare opportunity to come close to baby elephants. The ages vary from a few months to 3 years. Each orphaned elephant is assigned its own keeper, who acts as a replacement mother and will stay with the elephant until it is re- introduced into the wild. The keeper as well gives a talk about the elephants, where they came from, how they are getting on, and how some of the previous orphans are progressing. P a g e | 6 You will then drive to the Karen Blixen Museum with lunch at Karen Blixen Coffee Garden. This museum was the home of the Danish renowned writer – Karen Blixen, also known by her pen name as Isak Dinesen. The house was her residence between 1914 to 1931. Most of the household items that Karen used are still intact in the house. Surrounding the house is some nicely, natured coffee gardens that lady Karen grew. In the house she has a small library, offering some of Karen’s writings among other collections. This will be followed by a visit to Kazuri Beads and Pottery Centre. This is a popular place for many guests who have just a few hours to spend seeing the sights of Nairobi. Kazuri beads produce brightly-colored, hand-made ceramic jewellery which are sold all over the world. Tonight’s dinner is a special event with our host, The Manji Family who will entertain you over drinks and dinner at their family home. Thereafter return to the hotel for an overnight stay. Born from one family’s passion for Kenya and it's wilderness, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is today the most successful orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world and one of the pioneering conservation organisations for wildlife and habitat protection in East Africa. To date the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has successfully hand-raised over 244 infant elephants and has accomplished its long-term conservation priority by effectively reintegrating orphans back into the wild herds of Tsavo, claiming many healthy wild-born calves from former-orphaned elephants raised in care.
