August August 20-21 – Monson, Greenville & Mooseshead Lake Tour aboard Steamship Katahdin, Greenville, Me $260 Single/$180 Double Occupancy. Depart 8am. Back by popular demand, but instead of rushing this year, we’re spending the night at the lovely Chalet Moosehead Lakefront Motel, which will afford us the opportunity to relax and see more! August 26-27 – Lubec, Maine and Campobello Island, NB CA - $200 Single/$165 Double Occupancy. This sightseeing trip will take us to Downeast Maine! Depart 7am, travel to Washington County via US Route 1 passing though Calais with a brief side trip into Eastport before ultimately arriving at our destination in Lubec. Wednesday afternoon while in Lubec we will visit Quoddy Head and tour the historic downtown working waterfront of Lubec. Wednesday evening, we will stay at the Eastland Motel. Thursday morning, we will visit Franklin Roosevelt International Park Campobello Island. Anticipate some light walking. Passport or equivalent is required to enter . August 29-30 – Saint Andrews and Minister Island, Saint Andrews, NB CA - $215 single, $160 double occupancy. 7 people max, 7am departure. This sightseeing tour will take us to a place we’ve never ventured before, however if you’ve ever traveled with us to one of our McAdam Rail Station trips, then Ministers Island should jump right out in your memory! We will spend one night at the Picket Fence Motel in Saint Andrews, NB, CA, and when the tide is right, we will venture onto Ministers Island where Sir William Van Horne, the builder of the spent his summers. September September 2-3 - Gaspe Peninsula. $290 Single/$195 Double Occupancy, 7am. Prepared to be wowed….AGAIN ! Sit back and enjoy the views! This overnight driving trip with minimal walking will depart from the Caribou Wellness Center, enter Canada via the Van Buren/St. Leonard Boarding Crossing. This year we will explore a different direction than we did last year. We will explore the south shore of the Saint Lawrence Seaway entering via Matane. We will travel Northeast to Saine- Anne-Des-Monts and spend the night at the “Hotel & Cie.” The following morning, we will temporarily leave the ocean floor as we head South into the mountains and travel through the picturesque Gaspesie National Park before reentering the ocean floor and return home along the Bay of Chaleurs. This one-night trip will show us a different part of the Gaspe peninsula than we saw last year. Passport or equivalent is required to enter Canada. New in 2018 this outing was so awesome we couldn’t not reoffer it again! Captain Gary and Hostess Luanna Guerrette have a lovely party boat and cabin on the remote shores of Square Lake. Sqaure Lake is one of the largest lakes in the Lake Chain, measuring a massive 8,150 acres with a depth of 122 feet! The Bald Eagles outnumber the the year-round residents on the lake, so bring your binoculars, and be prepared to enjoy the beauty that Square Lake has to offer. September 9, 5-8pm and Saturday, September 12, 8-4pm – Maine Hunters Safety Course - $5, ages 10 and over, Preregistration is required, Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. Topics to be covered are rifles and shotguns, proper firearm handling, first-aid, landowner relations and map & compass usage. Upon completion participants receive certification. Ages 10-15 MUST be accompanied by an adult 18 or over. Attendance at both dates is mandatory.

September 10 – McAdam Rail Station, McAdam, NB, CA $40 lunch included, 7am. Back by the “wow” factor! We promise when you round the corner you will have the same jaw dropping experience that we have. If the walls could talk of this magnificent old train station it would never be quiet, as a matter of fact if you close your eyes and envision what it would’ve been like in her heyday, you can vision the many travelers that made their way from Maine and across Canada through the doors of this Canadian gem. Still a diamond in the rough, the historical committee is doing a magnificent job bringing this building back to its glory. Max. 9, Min. of 6 paid in full preregistered participants by August 27

September 15 – Chandler Lake Camp Sporting Camps, $40 lunch included, 8am. Once again Jason and Sherry are anxious to open their doors to our group and share their little piece of heaven with us. Each year we seek out a new to feature in our itinerary. This year we are partnering with a Caribou native and proprietor, Jason Bouchard, of Chandler Lake Camps. If you’ve ever ventured with us on the Pinkham Road, you’ve heard me point our Chandler Lake and Chandler Lake Camps in the distance. For many years we’ve been thinking about organizing this experience. Wait no more, Jason is anxiously waiting to show us what people from near and far come to enjoy. September 22 – Libby’s Camps, Millinocket Lake $40 lunch included, 8am. Since we introduced the Libby Camps stop in our programing, it has been nothing less than an incredible. Host Matt Libby run an incredible sporting camp operation that caters to outdoor enthusiasts far and wide in all four seasons that the great state of Maine can boast. Perhaps their most notable calling card is their Orvis Endorsed Fishing Lodge. Anyone not familiar with what this endorsement represents will quickly realize it when they walk through the main doors of the lodge. Libby’s provides one of the best lunches on our stops throughout the year. Following lunch Matt patiently provides a talk about his family’s rich history in the sporting camp business. Following lunch and talk, Matt us through each of the cabins and participants get a chance to peak in and see what keeps bringing their guests back year after year. September 24 – Meet a Game Warden, Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center - 5pm, Open to all ages, FREE. With hunting season right around the corner, this is an excellent opportunity to revisit hunting laws, ask questions and to meet your local Game Warden. ATV, Snowmobile, hunting and fishing rules and laws are constantly changing. But this session won’t only be about rules and laws, game warden jobs are some of the most interesting jobs there are out there. Their daily routine allows them to see many fascinating situations. Come meet a Maine Game Warden and listen to their stories! Lite refreshments will be served. October

October 2 – The Underground Railway, Tomlinson Lake Hike To Freedom, Perth NB, CA. $30 Lunch included, 10am. Experience the final few miles of North America’s northernmost route of the underground railway. The "Tomlinson Lake Hike To Freedom" is a Canadian not-for-profit organization situated in north-western New Brunswick. Their mission is to promote New Brunswick Black history, Canadian heritage, culture, local tourism, and physical and mental fitness. This wilderness event along North America's northernmost route of the Underground Railroad is planned every year in October to take in the beauty of the Fall foliage. The trail is 2.5km one way. Without actual locomotives, the Underground Railroad consisted of a network of secrets that led many fugitive slaves to their freedom in Canada during the mid-1800's. The Underground Railroad left no tracks but did have safe houses known as “Stations” or "Depots" and relied heavily on “Conductors” who aided those who were escaping slavery. October 6 – A ride in the woods to Machias River Campsite, , $30 lunch included, 9am. Just a relaxing ride into the Machias River Campsite. This low key “ride in the woods” will take advantage of the lovely fall foliage we take for granite that we have in October. We will stop for coffee, treats and socialization on our way. Once we arrive at the Machias River Campsite, participants will be free to relax by the campfire with a cup of coffee or walk around and listen to the tranquilly of the bubbling river or the sound of the songbirds that adorn the area. Lunch will consist of a hot soup, sandwich or hamburger on the grill or hot dogs roasted over an open fire, we’ll cap it off with s’mores, YUM! October 8 – Scopan Mountain Day Hike – $20 lunch included, 9am. Aroostook has many great hiking trails, perhaps one of the newest and overlooked hiking trails in our backyard is in Chapman, Maine. Located just west of the Chapman/Mapleton area you’ll find a newly constructed trail that captures the beauty of Aroostook. Scopan Ridge & knob have been here for as long as the glaciers created it, but never before has there been a formal trail that takes advantage of the splendor that the Chapman and Mapleton area have to offer. The Scopan Mountain day hike is a loop trail that measures 3.5 miles and has a difficulty rating of moderate. The surface of the trail consists of Dirt/Forest Floor, Rock/Ledge, Boardwalk or Bog Bridging. Scopan Mountain Trail leads up a moderately difficult forest trail. The trail surface is enhanced by the rock steps that were made by the Maine Conservation Corps. Along the way hikers can see a seasonal waterfall, a wetland frequented by and waterfowl, and several old-growth Hemlock. The trail leads up the mountain to Scopan Knob (the summit) where there are views of Mt. Katahdin, Alder Lake, and the surrounding farm country. October 15 – Hedgehog Mountain Day Hike, Winterville - $20 Lunch included, 9am. The Hedgehog Mountain Trail is a forest floor hiking trail leading up the south ridge of Hedgehog Mountain. Though the trail is relatively short, only 0.75 miles to the summit, it is fairly steep and is a good workout. Shortly after the trail begins, it leads through the yard of an old hunting camp. Once the summit is reached, hikers can relax at a picnic table and enjoy the splendid view of the North Maine Woods, Portage Lake, Fish River, and St. Froid Lake to the south and west. On clear days, Carr Pond Mountain can be seen to the southwest, as well as Deboullie Mountain and Black Mountain to the northwest. October 17 – Deboullie Mountain Day Hike $20, BBL* 7am. If the Scopan & Hedgehog Mountain Day Hike wet your whistle, then you’ll really love what the Deboullie area has to offer. If you’ve hiked Deboullie before, and it’s been a while, it’s not the same place. The Maine Department of Conservation has made an investment in the Aroostook County hiking trails and the Deboullie unit has been one of the benefactors. The 4-mile roundtrip hike starts out leisurely paralleling the shore of Deboullie Pond through a beautiful mature hardwood forest. Shortly before your turn right and begin the steep climb you cross the rock slide that gives the French name Deboullie its meaning. The 1-mile hike to the summit quickly leaves the shore of Debouliie Pond and provides beautiful views looking back onto Deboullie Pond and the surrounding area. October 20 – Mt. Chase Day Hike, Patten - $25 Lunch Included, 7am. We’ll travel south on the lovely and picturesque Rt. 11 which has spectacular foliage, especially in October. Just because fall is here doesn’t mean we have to hang up the hiking shoes, in fact fall is the BEST time to hike. The cool nights and warm days are the perfect ingredient for crystal clear blue skies with low humidity. Rising 2,440 feet above sea level, Mount Chase features a steep 1.7-mile trail that leads to the mountain’s bald summit, where hikers are rewarded with spectacular open views of the region including Mt. Katahdin and the surrounding lakes, ponds, rivers and streams. Max. 9, Min. of 6 paid in full preregistered participants by October 13.

October 22 – Two Rivers Lunch, Allagash - $25 Lunch Included, 9am. Allagash Village is always a favorite destination among locals, travel with us for the day as we stop along the way for coffee, comradery, beautiful views and ultimately lunch at Two Rivers in Allagash Village. After a satisfying lunch we will stop by Louie’s Antique Chainsaw Museum for a tour & Allagash Wood Products where they make wonderful cedar products like picnic tables and Adirondack chairs where they are shipped all over the country! October 27 – Smyrna Amish Village and Ward Log Homes, Houlton $40 lunch included, 7am. This perennial favorite will be a sure hit! Over the years we have formed a relation with the folks at the Smynra Amish Community and new this year we have arranged a tour of Ward Log Homes manufacturing facility. Come learn and see how Ward Log Homes is manufacturing Cedar Log Homes at their plant in Houlton, Maine. We’ll break in between Ward Log Homes and the Smynra Amish Community and have a delicious sit-down lunch consisting of a soup and sandwich at the Brookside Inn. After lunch we travel up the road to the Pioneer Place where we pick up a Amish who will bring us to the one room school house, we will get to observe the school children in their studies before they introduce themselves to our group and serenade us in music. Following the schoolhouse visit we will retreat to their chapel where we’ll have an opportunity to ask any questions you might have. This trip visits some of the area Amish businesses and culminates at the Pioneer Place Country Store. Max. 9, Min. of 6 paid in full preregistered participants by October 13.

November 3 – Elections – Polls open at 8am – No Walking – Exercise your civic right!

November 5 -AARP SMART DRIVER COURSE - 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM The AARP Smart Driver Course teaches valuable defensive driving skills and provides a refresher of the rules of the road. You will learn proven safety strategies to help keep you safe while on the road. Plus, you may qualify for an automobile insurance discount by completing the course. Please bring a lunch and arrive before 9AM so paperwork can be completed. You must have your AARP member number (shown on your AARP card) with you to take advantage of the reduced fee. 6 minimum, 20 max. ($15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.) Taught by Smart Driver Instructor Penny Kern. Minimum of 6 preregistered participants by October 29.

Novemeber 10 – Be American Red Cross Ready For Seniors– 10:00am-12:00pm. FREE! Build a kit, make a plan and be informed! Becoming “Red Cross Ready” for an emergency means following our simple steps in advance to ensure you can weather a crisis safely and comfortably. Being prepared may not prevent a disaster, but it will give you confidence to meet the challenge. So why not give yourself the peace of mind of know you have the right tools should the unexpected happen! 12 people maximum, 6 people minimum. Minimum of 6 preregistered participants by November 3.

November 12 – Community Ski Rentals, 6PM – Come rent skis for the winter! $60 for the whole season, plus $20 refundable deposit. Volunteers welcome to help with this event, ski experience not necessary!

Novemeber 17 – American Red Cross Community First Aid/CPR Modified Class – 10:00am-12:00pm. FREE! Earn a Community CPR participation card. Learn how to free a lodged object from an airway, learn the proper technique for chest compressions should blood need to be circulated and learn what steps are necessary to control bleeding. This “ice breaker” class will give you confidence to react when the need arises. Fill your toolkit with the confidence you know you have. 12 people maximum, 6 people minimum. Minimum of 6 preregistered participants by November 10.

November 19 – Heat pump operation and maintenance – $FREE 1pm. Heat pump are latest in an economical means for an efficient alternative to supplementing your heat source. But are you maximizing your heat pump to its full potential? Heat pumps are more than just sources of heat, they can be used for cooling, drying, circulating air and heating! Are heat pumps maintenance free? If you have questions about heat pump operation, how to efficiently use your heat pumps, or how to maintain your pump, this class is for you. Minimum of 6 preregistered participants by November 12.
