Sat 25 September The opening in our diocese of the XVI 5.30pm Vigil Mass General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops.

Pope Francis has called a Synod of Bishops to meet Sun 26 September 9.30am Mass in in 2023. The topic will be “For a Synodal Sunday 26, Year B 11.30am Mass Church: Communion, Participation and Mission.” The Holy Father asks that the whole people of God 4pm Mass take part in this Synod by meeting together in parish- es to pray, discuss and reflect on the topic in order to discern how the Holy Spirit is prompting the Church to go forward.

Bishop Toal will mark the beginning of this synodal process with the celebration of Mass in Motherwell Cathedral on Sunday 17th October at 3pm. Please make a note of this in your diary and take part in this important diocesan event.

Special Collection for September: The special collection in September is for the Ecclesiastical Stu- dents Fund (for the formation of our future priests and deacons). As with previous special collections this year we ask you to please put your donation into an envelope and mark it ‘Church Students’ and leave it with your offering in the basket at the door. St Peter’s Parish, Hamilton: This year marks the 40th anniversary of the official opening of the church. Mass will be celebrated on Monday 27th September at 7pm to mark this anniversary. Bishop Toal will be the main celebrant. There is an open invitation to anyone who wishes to attend. Congratulations to St Peter’s parish and its Parish Priest, Fr Frank King, may they experience every bless- ing as they celebrate the opening of the church and the 40 years of service to the people of God. COP 26: In November this year, Glasgow will host a major international conference on the Climate Emergency. There are a number of different initiatives with Justice & Peace Groups and SCIAF involvement. Enquiry Evening: Meeting in the church on Tuesday 21 September at 6.00pm for those who are interested in be- coming members of the . The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) will be explained and questions answered. Although the meeting is in the church, it is informal and no commitment is expected. Please wear a mask. All welcome.
