LBP0018 Written evidence submitted by The Northern Powerhouse Education Consortium Education Select Committee Left behind white pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds Inquiry SUBMISSION FROM THE NORTHERN POWERHOUSE EDUCATION CONSORTIUM Introduction and summary of recommendations Northern Powerhouse Education Consortium are a group of organisations with focus on education and disadvantage campaigning in the North of England, including SHINE, Northern Powerhouse Partnership (NPP) and Tutor Trust. This is a joint submission to the inquiry, acting together as ‘The Northern Powerhouse Education Consortium’. We make the case that ethnicity is a major factor in the long term disadvantage gap, in particular white working class girls and boys. These issues are highly concentrated in left behind towns and the most deprived communities across the North of England. In the submission, we recommend strong actions for Government in particular: o New smart Opportunity Areas across the North of England. o An Emergency Pupil Premium distribution arrangement for 2020-21, including reform to better tackle long-term disadvantage. o A Catch-up Premium for the return to school. o Support to Northern Universities to provide additional temporary capacity for tutoring, including a key role for recent graduates and students to take part in accredited training. About the Organisations in our consortium SHINE (Support and Help IN Education) are a charity based in Leeds that help to raise the attainment of disadvantaged children across the Northern Powerhouse. Trustees include Lord Jim O’Neill, also a co-founder of SHINE, and Raksha Pattni. The Northern Powerhouse Partnership’s Education Committee works as part of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership (NPP) focusing on the Education and Skills agenda in the North of England. -

Online Paper www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/ Application Form is contained in admissions Section 5 of this booklet. 31 October 2020 Closing date for on time applications • Paper applications to be returned to: School Admissions, Cheshire West and Chester Council, Wyvern House, The Drumber, Winsford, Cheshire, CW7 1AH. Paper applications must be received by this date to be considered as ‘on time’ • Online applications must be submitted to the Authority by this date. Newsletter May 2017 Welcome to the second edition of the Chester School Sport Partnership newsletter in 2017. This newsletter focuses on the Level 3 School Games competitions which are the Cheshire and Warrington county finals for the Level 2 events held by Chester SSP over the last few months. A huge congratulations to all the schools who represented Chester, we had some amazing teams who took part in the competition which was spread out over a two week period in March across Cheshire. Overall we had eight schools from Chester who won medals, and one school won the Spirit of the Games award. This is a fantastic achievement and shows how strong Sport and PE is within our area. Thank you to all the teachers, parents, volunteers, and the children for your support at these fantastic events. The following pages show the results and a selection of photographs from each of the events. Page 1 Level 3 School Games: U15 Girls and Boys Handball Day 1 of the Cheshire and Warrington Winter School Games saw 10 schools from all over Cheshire and Warrington descend upon the Northgate Arena for the U15 Boys and Girls Handball competition. There was an excited buzz around the sports hall whilst all the teams warmed up. When all the schools had arrived the opening ceremony began, and the players sat in their schools teams with brightly coloured team shirts on show. Upton High School Girls and Tarporley High School Boys were our Chester schools representatives sporting the yellow t-shirts. The players made their way to the courts in readiness for the first games to begin, all players ready, the hooter sounded and the games began! The standard of handball just got better and better throughout the afternoon, high quality games were matched with excellent umpiring. -

There are three types of secondary school admissions which are as follows: 1. Children transferring from Year 6 to Year 7 in September 2020 (referred to as normal rounds of admission); 2. In year admissions, which are all other admissions where children move from one school to another part way through a school year; and 3. Admissions to schools with an atypical age range, such as University Technical College. The booklet provides important information on the processes associated with admissions to schools and gives details of how places are allocated (normal rounds) which should help you make an informed decision about your preferences. Please take the time to read the booklet carefully before completing an application, even if you have already decided which schools you prefer. The law gives parents/carers the right to express a preference for which school you wish your child to attend. It is very important that you understand that this is not the same as being able to choose a school. Admission to your school of first preference depends on meeting the criteria that are explained in this booklet and availability of places at the school. Additional input has been provided by Ares Landscape Architects. It accompanies and supports the planning application for Hartford CE High School. The statement explains how the proposed development is a suitable response to the site and its setting, and demonstrates that it can be adequately accessed by prospective users. This document accompanies the planning application for Hartford CE High School, Chester Road, Hartford, Northwich, CW8 1LH for the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA). It is intended to supplement the information required by Cheshire West and Chester Council by summarising the functional requirements of the brief, together with the architect’s interpretation of the site context and the response to it. Section 42 of 2004 Town and Country Planning Act substituted the Section 62 of the 1990 Act so as to Northwich provide a statement covering design concepts, principle and access issues submitted with an application for planning permission. It states that one statement should cover both design and access, allowing applicants to demonstrate an integrated design approach that would deliver exclusive design and address a full range of access requirements throughout the design process. -
