VHCC Choir Christmas Concert Tuesday, December 3 7:00 PM VHCC Keyser-Aday Theatre VHCC Student/Employee Admission - Free Community Admission - $5 Donation Appreciated The annual concert by the VHCC Mixed Choir and Women’s Chorus has become a tradition in past years. The concert will blend sacred and secular favorites and will Heart of Appalachia Community Orchestra feature soloists and instrumentalists. The program will provide something for everyone Friday, December 13 and will put you in the Holiday spirit. Come and enjoy the wonderful music these students 7:00 p.m. and community members will present. The groups are directed by Mary Munsey and VHCC Keyser-Aday Theatre accompanied by Krystal Smith on piano and Schery Collins on flute. Come at 6:45 to Free enjoy some lovely pre-concert music, too! The orchestra has been directed by Kevin Townsend since 2005 and is made up primarily of music hobbyists, people who just enjoy listening to and playing music. CONCERT The group also has a few music educators or former music educators, but most members have a non-music related career. They range in age from high school through retirees. Most members come from the Lebanon and Abingdon areas, but they also have members who drive from Kentucky and North Carolina. Their motto is “Music is too important to be left to professionals.”

Musicians of all ages and abilities who play string, brass, woodwind, or percussion instruments are invited to join The Heart of Appalachia Community Orchestra. Fire in the Kitchen Sunday, December 15 3:00 p.m. Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church Student Admission - Free | Community Admission - $10 Playing a unique blend of Appalachian/Old Time/Folk and Celtic music since 2002, they have been sharing lively jigs & reels and beautiful airs & ballads to audiences all over the South. Based in Washington County, VA, Fire in the Kitchen’s unique sound is created by the beautiful hammered dulcimer playing of Tammy Martin, the bass and guitar skills of Teddy Helton and the hauntingly beautiful sounds of the penny & low whistle playing of Debbie Shrewsbury.

They’ve performed for many well-known artists and at a variety of venues locally and regionally including Dollywood’s Festival of Nations, The Carter Family Fold, Bristol Rhythm ‘N Roots, The Blue Ridge Celtic Festival, and others. They have made three appearances on the PBS program “Song of the Mountains” filmed at the Lincoln Theater in Marion VA.
