There are an enormous amount of resources available to individuals over age 60 in the Greater Boston area, but attempting to locate and coordinate these resources can often be an overwhelming and frustrating task. We encourage you to use this material as a starting point. If you need more information, contact the agencies directly for more information and as always feel free to contact us. Our professional social work staff are available free of charge to assist you. With recent budgetary cuts and shifts in funding, the information you receive today may often be invalid tomorrow. We are committed to providing the most accurate and up to date information possible. The best advice for staying healthy is to challenge your mind, be physically active, and keep connected to family, friends, and social organizations. Brookline Council on Aging Brookline Senior Center Elder Resource Guide Seventh Edition The Brookline Council on Aging is a Town agency that promotes active and healthy aging. We are dedicated to enriching the aging experience for Brookline seniors over the age of 60. Our goal is to help seniors maintain their independence and continue to be active members of our community. ADULT DAY HEALTH PROGRAMS Adult Day Health (ADH) programs offer frail seniors a place to receive medical care, as well as an opportunity for increased socialization. ADH programs may also be a source of respite to caregivers for seniors who are unable to remain alone at home during the daytime hours. ADH program staff may consist of nurses, social workers, recreational therapists, certified nursing assistants, physical and occupational therapists, and dieticians. Program staff will also work closely with an individual’s primary care physician to assure the best possible plan of care. ADH offerings vary by program, but usually include: breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack nursing care including medication administering/reminders, monitoring of existing medical conditions and medical treatments daily activities such as exercise, arts and crafts, discussion groups, outings to local restaurants, shops and cultural events personal care such as assistance with bathing and dressing door to door transportation (Transportation cost will differ for wheelchair bound participants and is not listed for the programs.) MassHealth (Medicaid) and private pay are the two most common sources of payment for ADH programs. Private pay costs vary by program. Limited assistance may also be available through your local Aging Services Access Point (Springwell for Brookline). Makay, Advisor The purpose of this study is to use rhetorical criticism as a means of examining how Blacks are depicted in the lyrics of popular songs, particularly hip-hop music. This study provides a rhetorical analysis of 40 popular songs on Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles Charts from 1999 to 2006. The songs were selected from the Billboard charts, which were accessible to me as a paid subscriber of Napster. The rhetorical analysis of these songs will be bolstered through the use of Black feminist/critical theories. This study will extend previous research regarding the rhetoric of song. It also will identify some of the shared themes in music produced by Blacks, particularly the genre commonly referred to as hip-hop music. This analysis builds upon the idea that the majority of hip-hop music produced and performed by Black recording artists reinforces racial stereotypes, and thus, hegemony. The study supports the concept of which bell hooks (1981) frequently refers to as white supremacist capitalist patriarchy and what Hill-Collins (2000) refers to as the hegemonic domain. The analysis also provides a framework for analyzing the themes of popular songs across genres. The genres ultimately are viewed through the gaze of race and gender because Black male recording artists perform the majority of hip-hop songs.

Whether in the form of short stories, poetry, visual art, or music, our magazine has dedicated itself to providing a space for midshipmen expression of the highest quality. Not until last spring, however, through the generous donation of Mr. Larry Brady ’66 and family, did we secure enough funding to ensure annual printing. Knowing we would eventually be able to hold a hard copy of the Labyrinth in our hands energized the staff all year long. We also found the Brigade more responsive than ever to our calls for submissions. Our goal this year was to better illuminate the link between the words on these pages and the careers of the people who write them. LGEN Lennox, the Superintendent of West Point and holder of a Ph.D. in Literature from Princeton University, graciously agreed to introduce the Labyrinth. We have included the service selections for all of the first-class midshipmen, as well as the work of several alumni who have gone on to successful careers in the Navy and Marine Corps.
