Natl Park, south-western W.A. Description Diffuse open shrub to 1 m high. Branchlets grey, glabrous or sparsely appressed-puberulous. Stipules c. 1 mm long. Phyllodes verticillate with nodes 1–2.5 cm apart, 6–9 per whorl, patent to slightly reflexed, straight or shallowly recurved, tetragonous in section, sometimes trigonous, 8–12 (-15) mm long, 1 mm wide, pungent with a slender cusp 1 mm long, rigid, glabrous, sometimes subglabrous, 4-nerved, sometimes imperfectly 3-nerved, deeply channelled between nerves when dry. Inflorescences simple, 1 or 2 per axil; peduncles 2–5 (-10) mm long, glabrous; heads globular to slightly obloid, 16–20-flowered, cream to pale yellow. Flowers 4-merous; sepals 2/3–3/4-united. Pods ±moniliform, to 7 cm long, 3–4 mm wide, firmly chartaceous, dark brown, glabrous. Seeds longitudinal, widely oblong-elliptic, c. 4 mm long, slightly shiny, dark brown; aril terminal, conical. Habitat Grows in sand in heath, scrub and shrubland dominated by Eucalyptus tetraptera. Specimens W.A.: type locality, B.R.Maslin 3482 (B, BRI, K, L, MEL, NSW, PERTH, RSA). Notes Related to A. argutifolia. Superficially resembles A. cedroides which also has verticillate, pungent phyllodes and grows in the Fitzgerald R. Natl Park but has longer, inclined to ascending phyllodes, striate-ribbed branchlets, 5-merous flowers and coarsely striate pods. Installation of a pollution control facility (wash rack) CIVIL ENGINEERING CALCULATIONS The purpose of this conceptual design effort is to identify the amount of impervious surface, grading (cut and fill) and drainage implications of the projects identified above. The conceptual design calculations detailed in the following figures indicate that Projects 1 and 2, widening the runways and taxiways would increase the total amount of impervious surface on the Airport by 32,016 square feet, or 0.73 acres; a 6.6 percent increase in the Airport’s impervious surface area. Drainage patterns would remain the same as both the runway and taxiways would continue to sheet flow from their centerlines to the edge of pavement and then into open, grassed areas. The existing drainage system is able to accommodate the modest increase in stormwater runoff that would occur, particularly as soil conditions on the Airport are conducive to infiltration. Figure A-1 shows the locations of the seven projects incorporated in the Proposed Action.

FORWARD This Fitzgerald Biosphere Recovery Plan constitutes the formal national regional recovery plan for 11 flora species and provides recovery guidance for the remaining species and ecological communities largely endemic to the Fitzgerald Biosphere on the south coast of Western Australia that are listed under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The Fitzgerald River National Park (FRNP) was designated a Biosphere Reserve under the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme in 1978, and is recognised for its relatively pristine state and high biological diversity, especially its flora. For the purpose of this plan, the term ‘Fitzgerald Biosphere’ or ‘Biosphere’ refers to the combination of the core Biosphere area as recognised by MAB and the buffer and transition zones as defined by catchment boundaries as shown in figure 1.

All grids were open for between five and seven nights giving a total trap effort of 1780 Elliott trap nights, 588 pit-trap nights and 224 cage trap nights (Table 2). An additional cage trap was added to each of the systematic trapping sites (i.e. KU1 – KU7). Systematic avifauna censusing was not undertaken as part of this current survey, rather effort focussed on recording the distribution of the Western Whipbird Psophodes nigrogularis oberon and other Threatened or Rare taxa. However, notes were made of species additional to those recorded during Phase I (see Results and Discussion below). A total of 23 hours was spent conducting transects through all of the proposed pit and overburden areas to record the presence of threatened bird species (Figure 2). Opportunistic collecting was also undertaken at locations likely to support fauna of conservation significance including Short Range Endemics.

The Role of Biome Shifts in Lineage Diversification Esther Elizabeth Dale Submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctorate of Philosophy Department of Botany, University of Otago November 2018 II Abstract This thesis examines the role of biomes in lineage diversification. It explores whether biome conservatism, the tendency to remain in ancestral biomes, constrains diversification, and tests whether biome shifts are linked to characteristics of particular biomes, clades or traits. This work focuses on a series of radiations in Australia and New Zealand. Using the hyper-diverse genus Acacia in Australia, Species Distribution Models (SDM) were used to predict distributions and niche traits of 481 species in 19 clades across two biome typologies. Diversification was not constrained to any biomes, with most species (94%) occupying multiple biomes, but diversification was greatest in those biomes currently occupying larger areas. New Zealand groups (Poaceae, Melicytus, Myrsine and Pseudopanax) with small scale radiations (< 25 species) were then investigated in relation to occupancy of the three main biomes (Forest, Open and Alpine). A temporal sequence of biome availability in New Zealand allowed an examination of diversification in the context of the directional transition from forest to more open biomes. A combination of methods including SDM, biogeographical models, and trait measurements of plants grown in a common garden were utilised to explore the importance of biome shifts during diversification, the relationship between trait shifts and biome shifts, and ask if biome conservatism was prevalent in the different clades. Biome conservatism did not constrain diversification in New Zealand lineages. Biome shifts were generally frequent and more closely related to extrinsic biome factors like biome age, biome availability and relative environmental similarity between biomes, rather than to intrinsic features of lineages, such as clade size, diversification rate or age.
