College students will agree that free tuition is an effective incentive for inspiring a little creative thinking. DePauw University in Indiana recently offers free tuition for students who come up with practical ideas on how to improve their university. Larry Anderson, director of public relations at DePauw, said offering a tuition waiver for students is a concept which will be instituted in October at the university. The program, Contribution to Campus Life, was conceived by De- Pauw President Robert Bottoms in an attempt to encourage students to suggest ways to better the campus environment. "The program will give students a voice in the university community, and also give them a way to channel their ideas [to the administration]," Anderson said. Ideas for entries will not be limited to one particular area of the university. Students can write about any number of aspects of the university including education, multicultural affairs, health, safety, greek life and athletics, he said. The proposals will be evaluated by a committee appointed by the president. The finalists the committee picks will be asked to make their proposals more comprehensive for submission to the president who then decides on the winning proposal. Anderson said if two students create the winning suggestion, the waiver will be split.
