Mongrel Media Presents OF GODS AND MEN A Film by Xavier Beauvois (120 min., France, 2010) Distribution Publicity Bonne Smith 1028 Queen Street West Star PR Toronto, Ontario, Canada, M6J 1H6 Tel: 416-488-4436 Tel: 416-516-9775 Fax: 416-516-0651 Fax: 416-488-8438 E-mail: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected] www.mongrelmedia.com High res stills may be downloaded from http://www.mongrelmedia.com/press.html SYNOPSIS Eight French Christian monks live in harmony with their Muslim brothers in a monastery perched in the mountains of North Africa in the 1990s. When a crew of foreign workers is massacred by an Islamic fundamentalist group, fear sweeps though the region. The army offers them protection, but the monks refuse. Should they leave? Despite the growing menace in their midst, they slowly realize that they have no choice but to stay… come what may. This film is loosely based on the life of the Cistercian monks of Tibhirine in Algeria, from 1993 until their kidnapping in 1996. PREAMBLE In 1996 the kidnapping and murder of the seven French monks of Tibhirine was one of the culminating points of the violence and atrocities in Algeria resulting from the confrontation between the government and extremist terrorist groups that wanted to overthrow it. The disappearance of the monks – caught in a vice between both sides- had a great and long-lasting effect on the governments, religious communities and international public opinion. The identity of the murderers and the exact circumstances of the monks‟ deaths remain a mystery to this day.

Dependent on the medical staff and pain relievers, she takes time to look back on the turbulent ten-year relationship she experienced with Georgio (Vincent Cassel). Why did they love each other? For Tony, a difficult process of healing is in front of her, physical work which may finally set her free. LOGLINE Acclaimed auteur Maïwenn’s magnum opus about the real and metaphysical pain endured by a woman (Emmanuelle Bercot) who struggles to leave a destructive co-dependent relationship with a charming, yet extremely self-centered lothario (Vincent Cassel).

Set during the reign of “citizen king” Louis Philippe, it chronicles the surprising betrothal of the aristocratic, handsome Ryno de Marigny (newcomer Fu-ad Aît Aattou) to Hermangarde (Roxane Mesquida of FAT GIRL), a young, beautiful and virginal aristocrat. Lurking in the margins – and in the imaginations of high society’s gossip-hounds – is de Marigny’s older, tempestuous lover of ten years, the feral La Vellini (Argento). Described as, “a capricious flamenca who can outstare the sun,” La Vellini still burns for de Marigny, and she will not go quietly. Though a fascinating departure into more traditional storytelling, THE LAST MISTRESS sees Breillat continuing her career-long interest in the ramifications of female desire, casting Argento as an impassioned independent woman for the ages, but it is also a surprisingly witty and touching – and needless to say sexily explicit - period drama that explores the age-old battle of the sexes.

  • Jeudis De L'esra

The U.S. remained the number 1 source of films (57%), ahead of Germany, whose market share nevertheless picked up by 0.7%. The number of French films programmed on the public broadcasters ceased to decline this year, and even increased on several regional channels. ZDF remained the leading broadcaster of French films. This channel ramped up its share of movie programming devoted to French fare, running at 15%, against 13% in 1997. It successfully reran l’Ange noir, and presented le Garçu and Toxic affaire, as well as a number of classics such as les Seins de glace, Don Camillo Monseigneur and la Guerre des polices. Since 1995, the number of films shown on ARD had dwindled. It stabilized in 1998 at 67 titles, with a host of recent titles including Élisa, la Fleur de mon secret, L. 627 and les Apprentis. Regional public channels saw an uptrend: up 6 titles on Bayern 3, up 10 on West 3 and up 19 on B1 in Berlin. Among the commercial channels, TM 3 outstripped Vox in the number of French titles scheduled: it programmed 78, 13 more than in 1997. This channel (owned by the TeleMûnchen Group) broadcast essentially catalogue films, and devoted 28% of film slots to French fare, an all-time high in Germany.

Welcome Aboard a film by Jean Becker FRENCH RELEASE: 13 JUNE RUNTIME: 90 mins STUDIOCANAL INTERNATIONAL MARKETING EMILIE MARTEL [email protected] Louis BECKER presents Patrick CHESNAIS Jeanne LAMBERT Welcome Aboard a film by Jean BECKER BASED ON THE NOVEL BY Eric HOLDER PUBLISHED BY FLAMMARION ADAPTATION AND DIALOG François D’EPENOUX Jean BECKER WITH THE COLLABORATION OF Marie-Sabine ROGER WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF MIOU-MIOU Jacques WEBER Synopsis Taillandier is a well-known painter in his sixties, but despite his success, he suddenly decides to give up his art. Overwhelmed by depression, he walks away from his home with no destination in mind, and leaving no explanation for those close to him. During his travels, he has an unlikely encounter with a young girl who has also strayed from the path of life – Marylou, rejected by her own mother. This lost child and this man at the end of his tether travel together for a while. And eventually, they end up living like father and daughter in the peace and quiet of a rented house, giving each other the helping hand they both need to make sense of their lives once more. Encounter with JEAN BECKER Screenwriter and director Why did you decide to adapt Bienvenue Parmi Nous, the novel by Eric Holder? My son gave it to me to read and at first, I found it a very dark novel. I took quite a lot of time to make my mind up, but once I’d worked out how I could make it lighter and more optimistic, I decided I could turn it into a film.
