The Rideau Can oe Club had its origin in a m o very s all way . I n 1 902 a sc re of enthusiastic paddlers w ho were summering on the Rideau aw o Lakes s the necessity of such an organizati n . and just tw o weeks prior to the annual meet of

LIN . applied and were admitted to the Canadian Canoe P residen t. o h Associati n . entered under t e Rideau colors, i u ub R dea Canoe Cl . and succeeded in landing third place , against a o field of eleven c mpetitors . Inspired by the success attained . the boys held o o o r t gether for the next tw o years, using a private b athouse f training

o quarters . Then they began to realize that they needed a club house f “ o o thei r ow n, and here began what seemed an alm st h peless ta sk , but per oo f severance and grit are the warp and w f o success . They succeeded in o o m o o m on btaining a l t from the Do ini n G vern ent the Rideau Canal , over f o mm o looking the beauti ful drive w ay o the I mpr vement Co issi n , an ideal i spot f or a club ho use . They entered into a v gorous campaign during the o 4 o of o of 1 0 winter f 1 904 905. and by the pening the seas n 9 5 had erected o o n om o to he o ne o f the m st ha ds e club h uses f und in Canada .
