9:30 – 10:30 Conversation with Eric H. Holder, Jr. 82nd Attorney General of the . Mr. Holder served as Attorney General from February 2009 to April 2015. As the third longest serving Attorney General in U.S. history and the first African American to hold that office, Mr. Holder is an internationally recognized leader across a broad range of regulatory enforcement, criminal justice, and national security issues. Currently, Mr. Holder is a partner at Covington & Burling, LLP where he advises clients on complex litigation and investigation matters.

Frank Luntz – Mr. Luntz is one of the nation’s premier political commentators. Sir David Frost has deemed him as the “The Nostradamus of pollsters,” and magazine identified him as No. 24 on their Power Elite survey. In 2012, he finished 87th in a Time magazine global poll of the “most influential people in the world.” Luntz has conducted focus group sessions for all three broadcast networks, two of the three cable news channels and PBS, as well as for The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, The New Yorker, The Times of London, and U.S. News & World Report. Donnie Fowler – Mr. Fowler has spent the last two decades working between the Silicon Valley and the public sector helping to navigate public policy and open new markets for social media, clean energy, and big data projects. He is currently an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco and for the past year has been CEO of Tech4America, a public service matchmaking venture that brings together the tech industry and public sector leaders. Previously, Mr. Fowler served in the White House Congressional Affairs Office under President Clinton and worked for the Democratic National Committee.

Chris Lehane – Mr. Lehane has extensive experience working in the political and public policy sector. He served in various positions in the Clinton Administration, including Special Assistant Counsel to President Clinton and Press Secretary to Vice President . Mr. Lehane has also provided strategic counsel to political, corporate, technology, entertainment and professional sports clients. Currently, Mr. Lehane is the Head of Global Policy and Public Affairs for Airbnb.

2:00 – 3:15 Trade and the Economy Under the New Federal Administration The potential effects on California’s economy and workforce of any major changes to U.S. economic and trade policies.

Laura Tyson – Faculty Director, Institute for Business and Social Impact, UC Berkeley. Ms. Tyson is a professor of business administration and economics, and a former dean, at the Hass School of Business and London Business School. An expert on trade and competitiveness, she served as Chair of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers and later as Director of the White House National Economic Council under President Clinton. first woman to serve in these two positions. Tyson also co-chairs the World Economic Forum’s Council on Women’s Empowerment and is the co-author of the Global Gender Gap Report, which ranks nations on economic, political, education and health gender gaps.

Jerry Nickelsburg – Adjunct Full Professor, UCLA Anderson Forecast. Mr. Nickelsburg is the Senior Economist for the Anderson Forecast. He plays a key role in the economic modeling and forecasting of the National, and California economies and the Los Angeles, Bay Area and Southern California economies. Nickelsburg is a regular presenter at economic conferences and is regularly cited in the national media including the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal and New York Times. Prior to working for the Anderson Forecast, he was the Managing Principal of Deep Blue Economics, a consulting firm he founded, and held a position with the Federal Reserve Board of Governors developing forecasting tools.

Daniel Sumner – Director, Agricultural Issues Center, UC Davis. Mr. Sumner is the Frank H. Buck, Jr., Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at UC Davis. His research and writing focuses on the consequences of farm and trade policy on agriculture and the economy. Prior to his current position, Sumner was the Assistant Secretary for Economics at the United States Department of Agriculture where he was involved in policy formulation and analysis on a range of topics facing agriculture.

3:30 – 4:30 Conversation with Cecile Richards President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Ms. Richards leads a movement that has worked for nearly 100 years to build a healthier and safer world for women and teens. Annually, Planned Parenthood provides healthcare services to approximately 2.5 million patients and sex education and outreach to 1.5 million people. Before leading Planned Parenthood, Ms. Richards served as deputy chief of staff for House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Janet Napolitano - President, University of California and former Secretary of Homeland Security under the Obama Administration. Since 2013, President Napolitano has led the University of California. Prior to this, Ms. Napolitano served as Secretary of Homeland Security from 2009-13, as Governor of Arizona from 2003-09, as Attorney General of Arizona from 1998-2003, and as U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona from 1993-97. As Secretary of Homeland Security, she oversaw the development and implementation of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Marshall Fitz - Managing Director of Immigration, Emmerson Collective. The Emmerson Collective, founded by Laurene Powell Jobs, works in several policy areas to develop tools and strategies to spur change and promote equality. Prior to joining the Emmerson Collective, Mr. Fitz was a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress where he served as Vice President for Immigration Policy. In addition, Mr. Fitz led the immigration working group for Secretary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Thomas A. Saenz - President and General Counsel, Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF). Mr. Saenz leads MALDEF in pursuing litigation, policy advocacy, and community education to promote the civil rights of Latinos living in the United States. Saenz re-joined MALDEF in August 2009, after spending four years on Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s executive team as Counsel to the Mayor.

Dr. Sandra R. Hernández, MD. - President and CEO, California Healthcare Foundation (CHCF). Dr. Hernandez has been president and CEO of CHCF since 2014. Prior to joining the foundation, Sandra was CEO of the San Francisco Foundation for 16 years. Previously, Dr. Hernández served as director of public health for the City and County of San Francisco. She also co-chaired San Francisco’s Universal Healthcare Council, which designed Healthy San Francisco, an innovative health access program for the uninsured.

Gina McCarthy - former Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Obama Administration. In 2013, President Obama appointed Ms. McCarthy to lead the EPA. Previously, she served as the Assistant Administrator in the Office of Air and Radiation under President Obama. Ms. McCarthy also served as the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection after having worked in Massachusetts as Undersecretary in the Office of Commonwealth Development and the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs. During her career, which spans over 30 years, she has worked at all levels of government to take action on critical environmental issues and coordinate policies on economic growth, energy, transportation and the environment.
