The report contains a description of the basin's resources and identifies problems, needs, and alternative solutions for meeting the problems and needs. A recommended early- action plan and a long-range plan was formulated to schedule de- velopment features. The study emphasizes the need for coordination between the Corps of Engineers and the Soil Conservation Service's planning efforts and project installations. The most critical prob- lem areas and needs requiring close planning and coordination are identified. A supplemental study for part of the basin has been approved. This study will investigate the need for additional flood damage reduction and the control of erosion and sediment. All alternatives solutions and recommended plan elements will be coordinated with the Corps of Engineers' planned and installed outlets and other structural measures. This supplemental area includes all of the upland area below the Corps of Engineers' reservoirs and the delta area east of the Yazoo, Tallahatchie, and Coldwater Rivers. These areas are re- ferred to in this study as areas 9, 8E, and a small part of area 8W below Yazoo City. This supplemental study begins in July, 1975. The scheduled completion date depends to some extent on the progress of the present Corps of Engineers' study in the Yazoo Basin. The Corps' study will provide data on proposed schedules for the planning and installation of their projects. These schedules and project mea- sures will control the planning and installation of USDA projects. The present supplemental USDA study extends for a period of about two years but will be controlled by the above items if full co- ordination occurs. A supplemental report will be prepared and study results will be limited to specific items that relate to the objectives of the supplement. It is expected that the report will recommend in greater detail means of reducing flood damages, be more specific concerning reduction of erosion and sediment problems, and provide a proposed schedule of watershed projects for future planning that is fully coordinated with the Corps of Engineers' planning and installation priorities ADDENDUM NUMBER 1 YAZOO -MISSISSIPPI RIVER BASIN STUDY MISSISSIPPI This addendum shows the results of using an interest rate of 5 7/8 percent for a 100 year evaluation period to determine benefits and costs for the early action plan. In the report 6 7/8 percent interest with a 100 year evaluation period was used in the upland and Delta areas whereas 5 1/2 percent interest was used for stream- bank stabilization. Current normalized prices were used to deter- mine benefits in all cases.     Earth’s Fresh Waters test answer sheet By the way limnology is SOMETIMES considered the study of freshwater. In reality it isn’t exactly and is actually the study of inland waters. This especially includes lakes, ponds, rivers, springs, streams, wetlands. Also, when you don’t know the answer use common sense (some of the pictures are hard, but at least make educated guesses (in earth science it is complete common sense minus the laws, fill in pictures, etc.) . My personal recommendation is to do two things: look at as much random info in your memory as possible and link it to water (have fun with it) and to look at websites other than Wikipedia. I have to admit Wikipedia is good, but it seems to be a weakness in which getting info. from multiple sources makes the test more diverse (JD’s tests for example with the waterfalls). By the way for certain questions that you did guess I did actually give half to a quarter credit meaning you would do better if you gave decent guesses that applied to the question. Label both the black and white boxes: 1. Compare Hard and Soft water. Such answers include, but are not limited to: Hard water consists of concentrations of Ca2+ and Mg2+. Soft water involves the removal of hardness ions, sometimes with distillation. Hard water has certain positive effects like getting calcium or magnesium. It is also negative because it can lead to the consumption of toxic metals or heavy metals. 2. By adding this element to water tooth decay can occur.

Dams now under construction across the Yocona and Yalobusha Rivers will, when completed, back the water up and flood some of the most fertile land of the county.

    2020 Survey of Aquatic Plant Species in Mississippi Waterbodies A report submitted to the Mississippi Aquatic Invasive Species Council Gray Turnage, Andrew Sample, and Colin McLeod Mississippi State University, Geosystems Research Institute Starkville, MS 39759 GRI Report #5086 October 2020 2020 Survey of Aquatic Plant Species in Mississippi Waterbodies Gray Turnage, Andrew Sample, and Colin McLeod Mississippi State University, Geosystems Research Institute Executive Summary Conclusions • Only two lakes (George and Lower) and three rivers/creeks (Homochitto and Little Hatchie rivers and Hickahala creek) in this survey had a plant assemblages entirely composed of native aquatic and riparian plant species. • There were 40 new plant species observed in the lake survey; of which, 6 were non- native species (all riparian). • Overall, there were 119 aquatic and riparian plant species observed in the river/creek surveys; of which, 18 were non-native. • Alligatorweed (Alternanthera philoxeroides: 7 waterbodies), water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes: 4 waterbodies, and Chinese tallow (Triadica sebifera: 4 waterbodies) were the most widespread non-native aquatic plant species found in lakes. • Alligatorweed (Alternanthera philoxeroides: 14 waterbodies), Chinese tallow (Triadica sebifera: 7 waterbodies), and common reed (Phragmites australis: 5 waterbodies were the most widespread non-native aquatic plant species found in rivers and lakes. Recommendations • Continue monitoring waterbodies within Mississippi for the presence of non-native aquatic plant species. • Implement early detection, rapid response (EDRR) management options on populations of those non-native aquatic plant species known to be in Mississippi, specifically small isolated populations before they spread to other sites. • Determine suitable goals for management of large populations of non-native aquatic plant species.

WARREN, JIM. ‘, KEITII WRIGI~T ‘, AND LARRY Slwwx 2 ABSTRACT - We document the occurrence of the raycd creekshcll (Anorforztoirlas rrrclitrtxs Conrad), a freshwater mussel (Unionidae), at eight sites in the upper Yazoo River drainage (lower Mississippi River Basin) in northern Mississippi. Previously, A. rtrditrt~s was thought to be restricted to Gulf Coast drainages as far west only as the Tickfaw River system (Lake Pontchartrain Basin), Louisiana. The eight populations reported herein repre- sent the only known occurrences of’ this species in the Mississippi River Basin. This distributional pattern, along with distributions of other aquatic organisms, suggests that headwater stream capture events occurred histori- cally between lower Mississippi River Basin tributaries arid the upper Tombigbee River drainage (Mobile Basin). Because A. I~LI~~UILIS is a rare species, considered imperiled throughout its range, the discovery ol‘ eight additional populations and the extension of its known range are of signifi- cance to its conservation. INTRODUCTION The distribution and biogeography of the freshwater mussel fauna of the lower Mississippi River Basin (defined as the Mississippi River and its tributaries from the mouth of the Ohio River to the Gulf of Mexico within the Mississippi Embayment Ecoregion and Gulf Coastal Plain) (Abel1 et al. 2000, Robison 1986) is less well-known than that of most of eastern North America.
