Reported by: Shauki Halime, USA ADS President, Mr. Souheil What a wonderful convention, which will never be forgotten Ghaoui, Houston Chapter (on Left) by all who attended. The warmth and hospitality of the Houston presenting the award to Gala MC, Mr. Ray Helal Chapter was more than any one expected. No wonder it was Dr. Clovis Maksoud selected as the Chapter of the Year. It was clear the entire community, worked together under the outstanding leadership of Mr. Souheil Ghaoui, to make this a fantastic event, from the initial warm welcome to the final goodbye. Many new friends were made by everyone.

Over 800 individuals attended, families came from everywhere, which made for a diverse and interesting atmosphere and made it a National Convention. The dynamic and hardworking Convention Chair, Mr. Tarek Amine seemed to never sleep as he ensured the smooth running of all the activities and events. Sheikh Moustafa Moukarim was honored by the Houston Chapter as well as the distinguished Dr. Clovis Maksoud was made an honorary member, which was a touch of class. Affordability For The Youth at Cleveland Mini Convention: The idea behind the youth convention that is now known as the mini convention, was to attract the largest amount of youth possible. Faten Makarem was born in 1980 in Lebanon. In 1982, she travelled with her family to Belgium to escape the civil war. She came back to her homeland 15 years later and graduated in 2002 from the Lebanese American University with a BA in International Affairs and Political Science.. In 2003, she obtained a Teaching Diploma in Social Sciences from the same University. Meanwhile, she worked for four years as a volunteer in an orphanage. She taught Cultural Studies in College and French as a second language in several institutions. She also worked in an environmental NGO. In 2006, she went back to Belgium and finished her Master Degree in International Politics, two years later from CERIS (Centre Européen Pour la Recherche Internationale et Stratégique), Brussels, where she also worked in Diplomatic and Consular services. Today, at the age of 29, Faten Makarem is preparing a thesis for her PhD and works as a Meditation Instructor.

He was considered a Hero of the Falklands War Mohammed Ali

Mohammed Ali Zeineldin, born November 12, 1933, passed away on September 2, 2009, he was 75. The death occurred suddenly of a heart attack while he was working in his office in the Heath and Mind Foundation that focused on the health of low-income families. A former Argentine military commander was considered a hero of the Falklands War. He was Druze. Retired Colonel, Zeineldin, being Lieutenant Colonel, commanded the 25th Infantry Regiment, which had the most victims struck by the British during the Falklands war in 1982. He also served in Panama during 1985 & 1986 training troops for President Manuel Noriega. After the US removed Noriega from Panama, Zeineldin was transferred back to Argentina. During 1988 he commanded the military uprising during the government of Raul Alfonsin. On December 3, 1990 Zeineldin lead an uprising against the government of Carlos Menem that earned him life imprisonment. He had great public support during his imprisonment. During a 2002 citizen protest for his release, supporter were requested to install flags in his favor, with the slogan "Free Zeineldin”.

There were numerous acts of peaceful protest demanding the immediate release of Zeineldin. His supporters reached more than eight thousand people, among which may be ordinary citizens, veterans and his soldiers, rightwing nationalist groups as well as the Revolutionary Communist Party, Maoist organization publicly supported his ideas. He received the presidential pardon of President Eduardo Duhalde on 20 May 2003. He then lead a discrete public life.
