Michael Hussey : Underneath the Southern Cross before purchasing it in order to gage whether or not it would be worth my time, and all praised Underneath the Southern Cross:

It was interesting to know about the habits, nerves, and work ethic of a top sportsperson. What things affect him, and what his strengths and weaknesses are. It was nice to know how similar a top player is to the rest of us in many aspects of life and career.Hussey gives an excellent recap of his experience facing . He wrote well about his time playing county cricket in and his eventual inclusion into the national team. He gives a totally biased opinion on the monkey-gate scandal and refers to as an absolute saint of a person, which was one part of his book which was 'meh'.Overall, well played Hussey.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Fantastic book by Mr. CricketBy Tugga WaughThis is a strong follow up to his first book (Mr. Cricket: Driven to Succeed) with a good balance between his first-class and international career. Unlike the first one which gave an excellent insight into his training regimen and his will to succeed, this book is more focused on his career trajectory and his - and also 's - tours and performances. He's not as unflappable as we may imagine and the book does well to cover his mental challenges. If you liked the first book, you'll love this one. In either case, get this book to understand what made Michael Hussey Mr. Cricket.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. At last a likeable cricketerBy batalongThis is a very readable biography in which a really nice guy describes the long road to the top of his sport, the problems he found when he got there, and his ability to decide when, and under what conditions, he left. He tells us a lot about his family and this adds to, rather than distracts the reader from, the sense of truthful and balanced reporting that pervades his story. He also manages to tell us about his life without having a consistently bad word for anyone.I note with pleasure that he was always a credit to his country, particularly in the subcontinent. Long may Michael Hussey carry the title "Mr Cricket'; we will be lucky if a more deserving person claims it in our lifetimes.

As I was about to make my Test debut said to me: ‘Huss, you’re good enough to be here, you don’t have to prove anything to any of us. Just go and play your way and you can’t fail, mate.’At the end of Michael Hussey’s tenth summer in first-class cricket – at age 30 – he was finally in the Test team. And almost everything in his first six matches had gone his way: Australia had won two series, and Hussey had already scored three hundreds. For so long his dream had been to play for Australia, but once there, he realised it was only the beginning and that there would be many more milestones to achieve. Michael Hussey is one of the most-loved Australian cricketers to have worn the baggy green. Underneath the Southern Cross details his journey from his childhood to the highs and lows of an extraordinary international cricket career playing alongside many of Australia’s star players. This is the personal account of a man whose hard work was rewarded with accolades at the highest level of international cricket. It will resonate with cricket lovers worldwide.
