Dogpile announces the most popular search trends of 2013

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- It's that time of year again; today Dogpile® releases their annual list of the most popular fetches of 2013. Top Searches Overall: Social Networks, Bargain Shopping, Retail Giants, and Breaking News

While the top seven mirror the 2012 results, eight through ten are Top Ten rookies. Major news sites CNN and MSN beat out 2012 favorites Netflix and ‘weather' and the wildcard of the year, home improvement giant, Lowe's. Facebook holds on to the #1 spot for the fifth consecutive year.

Pinterest and Tumblr move into the top five, displacing flickr and LinkedIn from last year's results. Meanwhile Facebook and YouTube held their commanding positions at the top.

For the past two years the Apple iPad and iPhone landed on the top of our list, but in 2013 Xbox One nimbly secured the top spot. The highly-anticipated launch of the next generation video game consoles from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, drove Dogpile users to learn more. Microsoft products dominated 2013, taking 3 of the top 4 spots, even ousting the iPhone from the top five. The Nook, iPod, and iPad Mini, were replaced by Playstation, Apple TV and Microsoft, while Samsung's latest smartphone crept up the charts from ten to seven.
