Ohjelmien valinnan kriteereinä ovat tarkoituksen- mukaisuus, sujuva käyttö ja asennuksen sekä de facto -standardien mukainen notaatio. Tärkeä kriteeri on laajennettu monialustaisuus, jolla tässä tarkoitetaan monipuolisen käyttöjärjestelmäsopivuuden lisäksi myös ohjelman tukea erilaisille tietojenkäsittelylaitteille ja tietoverkossa tapahtuvalle laskennalle. Liitteessä on nimetty noin 200 erilaista ja eri tarkoituksiin sopivaa matemaattista tietokoneohjelmaa. Jokaisen ohjelman asennus ja kevyt käyttö on testattu yk- sinkertaisilla ohjelmaan sopivilla operaatioilla. Järjestelmäalustana on käytetty Microsoft Windowsia, Ubuntun Linuxia ja Applen iOS:iä.
