Consumer Advisory for Menus

CONSUMER ADVISORY FOR MENUS

ALL MENUS that contain raw or undercooked foods must have a CONSUMER ADVISORY that contains the DISCLOSURE and REMINDER statement. Menu items that require the consumer advisory must be marked with an asterisk *.

Disclosure Statement RAW UNDERCOOKED COOKED TO ORDER GRILLED TO ORDER

The Disclosure Statement can go after each menu item OR at the bottom of EACH page that contains raw/undercooked foods BEFORE the advisory statement.

"Disclosure" means a written statement that clearly identifies the animal-derived foods which are, or can be ordered, raw, undercooked, or without otherwise being processed to eliminate pathogens, or items that contain an ingredient that is raw, undercooked, or without otherwise being processed to eliminate pathogens.

AND

Reminder Statement *CONSUMING RAW OR UNDERCOOKED MEATS, POULTRY, SEAFOOD, SHELLFISH, OR EGGS MAY INCREASE YOUR RISK OF FOODBORNE ILLNESS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE CERTAIN MEDICAL CONDITIONS.

The Reminder Statement goes at the bottom of EACH page that contains raw/undercooked foods. There must be an asterisk* by the Reminder Statement.

"Reminder" means a written statement concerning the health risk of consuming animal foods raw, undercooked, or without otherwise being processed to eliminate pathogens.

*CONSUMING RAW OR UNDERCOOKED MEATS, POULTRY, SEAFOOD, SHELLFISH, OR EGGS MAY INCREASE YOUR RISK OF FOODBORNE ILLNESS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE CERTAIN MEDICAL CONDITIONS.

Font size must be a minimum of 8 or displayed on a menu board shall be printed not smaller than the smallest lettering used for a menu item. CONSUMER ADVISORY MUST BE PRINTED IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. CLA 8/2012
