Proposals: Repointing of open joints in brick work to the front elevation, replacement of perished bricks to front elevation, replacement of defective modern plastic repairs to front elevation as shown on drawing 875-02. Repoint along top edge of modern rendered skirting at low level including pointing up a vertical crack. Replacement of broken tile. Checking of alignment of the gutter to ensure proper rainwater disposal. New materials: Reclaimed brick to match existing. Hydraulic lime (3.5NHL)/Sand mortar (1-2.5) for repointing works. Clay tile to match existing. Extent: it is not intended to repoint the whole elevation, sound pointing either cement based or the historic lime pointing is to be retained. Sound plastic repairs will be retained and only where there is evidence of deterioration will they be replaced. Samples: Sample of brick and mortar to be agreed prior to commencement of the works. Method: Existing mortar to be raked out of the joints using either hand tools or, where required, a variable speed angle grinder with suitable small diameter blade to a minimum depth 25mm or 3 times the joint width which ever is greater. Pointing to be finished slightly recessed from the brick face with a brush tamped finish.
