Families are selected through a careful matching process, which considers the preferences and requests of the student and host. Each match is confirmed in writing with a family profile and pictures of the family and a location map.

The homestay program is managed by one of the leading homestay program management organizations in Canada. The Canada Homestay Network Society (CHNS) is a non-profit organization that has been supporting and advocating for OCDSB students and host families since 2000. Over the years CHNS has established a strong reputation for caring hospitality, responsiveness, dependability, and due diligence.

Each student gets a warm welcome upon their arrival in Canada and care is taken to ensure that they are comfortable with their host family. Students participate in an orientation which includes tips on how to make their experience a positive and successful one. CHNS follows up with each student and their host to determine whether they require any special assistance.

Elementary There are 120 elementary schools from JK to grade 8 in the Ottawa-Carleton School Grade levels District School Board. Elementary students are generally placed in the grade Berrigan Elementary School JK-6 level that is appropriate for their age. In grades 1-8 Students will learn mathematics, science, and technology, Briargreen Public School JK-6 social studies, history, geography, health and physical education, the arts, Broadview Public School JK-8 and Core French. They will receive 200 minutes per week in French. 7-8

ESL (English as a Second Language) Chapman Mills Public School JK-6 English as a Second Language is a support program to help students learn Dunning-Foubert Elementary School JK-8 the language and skills needed to be successful in our school system. When 7-8 students arrive in Ottawa, they will be assessed and given an ESL stage and recommended ESL support.
