ANTI-RACKETEERING Chqrucler: 5 _ GALANTE was tried in SDNY for conspiracy to m violate narcotics laws and on 6/25/62,~was found guilty. On 7/10/62, sentenced by FJ LLOYD F. MC MAHON, USDC,SDNY, to 30 years_ imprisonment. Bail denied subject pending his appeal of this sentence. Subject presently incarcerated in US Penitentiary, Alcatraz.

On May 17, 1960, CARMINE GALANTE surrendered in ~~=ees Federal Court, Southern District of New York, as a result of a secret indictment made public on May 6, 1960, charging GALANTE and I ".1:-t twenty-nine other defendants with conspiracy for violation of the Federal Narcotics Laws. Subject pled not guilty before Federal Judge MC GOHEY, Southern District of New York, on May 17, 1960, and the Judge directed the subjectfs $100,000 bond, which he posted on a prior narcotics conspiracy violation, to cover this present f case and he was released pending trial.
