Special Emergency Collection Sept. 4-5 to Support Humanitarian Efforts in Haiti

Prompted by the massive earthquake and tropical storm that has devastated Haiti, Bishop Mark Brennan has joined Archbishop José H. Gomez, President of the USCCB, asking all faithful to consider donating to a special emergency collection to provide aid to support the Church and humanitarian needs arising from these and future disasters. This collection will take place at weekend Masses on Sept. 4-5th in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. The August earthquake killed more than 1,200 Haitian people and injured upwards of 5,700 others, leaving an overwhelming trail of destruction and rubble for a people who are hurting due to the socio-economic and political instability in their country, while still processing the assassination of their president in July.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL PARISHIONERS!

Bishop Brennan is inviting your input on an upcoming diocesan-wide survey regarding a broad range of topics relating to the way we live and experience our faith across the entire diocese. As our shepherd, the Bishop desires to listen to God’s people. This will assist him in developing a deeper understanding of the

hearts, minds, and needs of the faithful. ALL are highly encouraged to participate!

Parishioners we are asking you to complete the survey via emailed link, digital platforms (social media and websites), or manually via a paper survey. Completing the survey should take 7 to 10 minutes. Survey is available now and will run until September 19. Look for more details soon and don’t miss this unique opportunity to help shape the future of the Catholic Church here in West Virginia! Copies of the survey are available in the Narthex or English: https://dwc.org/pastoral-needs-survey/

Faith Formation Information

Sign up time is now!

Fall is right around the corner and our faith formation program is gearing up!

The theme this year is “Say the word and my soul shall be healed.”

Our program welcomes children from kindergarten to 12th grade. I know many of you are wondering about how we will proceed with the uptick in Covid-19. At this time, we plan to have in-person classes, but we will adapt if necessary. Our children and their family’s safety is our first priority! We will offer alternatives for those unable to attend in-person classes due to health issues.

Kindly take a moment and complete the digital registration form as soon as possible. If you have multiple children, please complete a form for each child. A link has been emailed to each family and can also be found on the Princeton Sacred Heart website. Registration is imperative for ordering lesson books per grade, preparing class rosters and for emergency purposes. We appreciate your timeliness in submitting your child’s registration form. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out by email or call Gina Boggess at 304-920-7047

More than two thousand years ago, the first met

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:1-4) Middle School & High School (grades 7-10), are beginning their journey towards Confirmation. Parents, please mark your calendar for our first organizational and informational meeting: Date: Wednesday, September 8th Time: 7pm Place: Church Narthex

What will Faith Formation look like this year?

That is the $1,000,000 question. Ideally, we would be putting Covid protocols behind us and meeting face to face each Sunday. However, in light of the resurgence of Covid cases in our community, we feel the need to monitor, evaluate and determine our course of action closer to Catechetical Sunday on September 26th. This gives us the opportunity to see what is transpiring in our local school systems as well as any restrictions/ protocols enacted by our Governor or Bishop Brennan. The majority of children in our faith formation program are below the age of 12 and have not been given the opportunity to be vaccinated. Each family has unique circumstances. So, we must be prudent and proceed with caution being mindful of the individual circumstances and balancing it with what is best for the program as a whole. Fr. Sebastian, the catechists and I will meet to discuss all options. A virtual option is being considered for those who cannot meet in person. We encourage parents to please complete the faith formation registration form as soon as possible. There is a question that evaluates your preference on in-person versus virtual classes. Parental preferences will be considered when making the determination for this fall. Let us continue to pray for the eradication of the virus and for God's great protection. Prayerfully, Gina

Once again in the Gospel reading, some Pharisees protest how Jesus and his disciples go about their daily lives. Sometimes they protest who Jesus hangs out with; other times they take offense at who he dines with; still other times they are scandalized by his words of healing or forgiveness. Today they complain to Jesus that his disciples aren’t washing their hands before they eat.

Especially since the of COVID-19, we know the importance of washing hands to slow or halt the spread of disease. In Biblical times, the practice of cleansing hands and purifying cups, jugs, kettles, and beds was about making things holy—set apart. Jews understood themselves as the chosen ones, set apart would have come into contact with plenty of from the surrounding peoples, so they followed unclean people and objects. Once again, Jesus calls elaborate rules to keep themselves and their them back to the spirit of the law, not the letter of possessions clean, “holy,” or set apart. The Pharisees believed that eating with sinners would “contaminate” them. Of course, that didn’t stop Jesus. From: the Diocese Re: Mailing of “The Great Controversy” – a book

This week we have heard from parishioners belonging to multiple parishes about a book sent to their homes, “The Great Controversy” by Ellen G. White, co-foundress of the Seventh Day Adventists. This book was not mailed by a parish or any Catholic source that we can tell. One of our pastors told us tonight that Remnant Publications, an independent publishing house, sent more than 350,000 copies of the book to residents of Charlotte, North Carolina in 2014, after having already sent a million books to people in Manhattan and over 300,000 to people in Washington, D.C. It would appear that a similar mailing has occurred in our region. Please reassure the faithful that this book is not provided by the Church, nor endorsed by it, and we will not share any parish mailing information with unauthorized outside vendors, particularly sources related to this book.

Offering a Mass for a special intention is a long-standing tradition in the Catholic Church. It is usually considered

that special graces are obtained for whom the Mass is said. Masses are offered for many reasons; for the souls in purgatory or in remembrance for someone who is deceased, or someone who is ill or having a special occasion. A Mass Intention may be set for: • A deceased loved one • A living person who is sick or suffering • A living person who is celebrating a birthday, anniversary or special moment in their life; • In thanksgiving to God (including the Lord Jesus or the Holy Spirit); Mass Intentions are published weekly in the Sunday bulletin. Mass Intentions are a personal donation, but the suggested amount is $10 during the week and $20 on the weekend. This signifies the sacrificial nature of giving of something of yourself to associate more intimately with Christ who offers himself in the Eucharist.

Sacred Heart, Princeton parish will only have one Mass Intention per Mass to keep us current with Canon Law of the Catholic Church. Each Mass is said for one person or one family. • Mass Intentions may be requested for Sundays, and weekdays throughout the Year. • Mass Intentions cannot be scheduled for or Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. These Masses will be celebrated for our priests’ intentions. • Mass intentions will be rescheduled if daily or weekend mass is canceled.

Requests will be honored on a first-come, first-serve basis in the order in which the request is received. Please call the Parish office or email [email protected] to request a date.

Please include the following persons in your daily prayers:
