Katerina Kondrenko says 7 out of 10 I've been in love with this character since Scarlet, I guess. But now I can better understand him. He has attention deficit disorder) And still he's soooo cute. Btw, on this novel he's 13 and you will see one of his so called heroic acts which was found on the internet by Cress. Susana says _ Driven; _ Manipulative; _ Schemer; _ Charming; _ Good hearted... deep... deep down. ....Thy name is Thorne. A glimpse into thirteen year old Thorne's life: I liked it, but it was just too short to merit a three star rating. amy says A Short Story about Carswell Thorne falling in love with Kate Fallow The Rampion. Aka all I ever needed. "He had wondered why she liked books so much, and if it was similar to why he liked spaceships. Because they could take you somewhere far, far away from here." We all know he's a sensitive flower disguised as a selfish bastard, next. I'm just really glad I now live with the extra information that Thorne had a "cat" named Boots. And he said he might even love her. That's [clenches fist] adorable. Anyways, this was really interesting and funny and so.......so........... Carswell Thorne. I still want a 10 book series on his adventures. Make it happen @ Marissa Meyer ___________________ pre-review: i can't believe all this time there existed a short story about thorne and nobody decided to tell me about it. i'm offended. anyways i'm still trying to recover from Cress.............so here i am............getting myself some more Carswell Thorne ;))))) also, i saw this on tumblr yesterday and i can't stop laughing © 10/10 best thing i've ever seen ___________________ • buddy read with the Cress to my Thorne Michaela says "Sweetheart, they have a whole display of spaceship accessories at Tiff's. Why don't we go down there after school and you can pick out something nice? Maybe a racer, or a fleet ship, or one of those vintage ones you used to like?" Returning her sweet smile, he'd responded simply, "I like the Rampions, Mom." Little Carswell is just soooo cute. Norah Una Sumner says Thirteen-year-old Thorne being a little shit and a (well, some sort of) gentleman. But you know,we all know he's a sweetie...deep down. And,yes, you've guessed right,I am trying to handle my Cress hangover by reading everything Lunar Chronicles related. However,I wish we got to see how Thorne stole his ship. This short story was cute and I really like how we get a glimpse of Thorne's relationship with his parents. Sushi says Maybe he could start an afterschool Flirting 101 class. That's right, this captain was born badass. He'd been charming his neighbors out of their bank accounts since he was seven, and had become quite good at it. Last summer, he'd even managed to get the Hernandez family to pay him 200 univs for a box of "succulent, prize-winning" oranges, having no idea that he'd picked the fruits of their own tree earlier that day. Robin (Bridge Four) says 3.5 sneaky stars I have loved our very morally ambiguous and fun loving Captain Thorn since his first appearance in Scarlett. I think I actually *squeed* when he was the love interest in Cress seriously I *squeed* and I'm a little old to squee for YA Before Carswell grew up to be a conniving, sneaky, swindling but ever charming and charismatic Captain of a stolen ship he was a kid with a dream of becoming a Captain and a plan to make it happen. This story goes through a few of his schemes including one involving getting some math homework out of a girl in his class. At least he feels a little conflicted about it since she is nice and doesn't seem to fall for any of his normal charms. This is a super fun and quick read that I giggled at in a few places. Thorn had a lot of practice talking himself into and out of tough situations to become the Captain he is today. Kels says Two words: Carswell Thorne *swooons* Okay, now for more words. I like this shorty quite a bit, but come on, anything Marissa Meyer writes I will read! Yet as much as I lurve Captain Thorne, I just didn't like him in this novel, and well, that's disappointing. Thirteen year old Thorne is a heartbreaker, manipulator, schemer, and all-around scoundrel, and though he has some redeeming qualities, he's still a weasel of a kid whose goodness is deep, deep, DEEP--too deep--down to go digging for gold for. Oh well, I still love me some grown-up Thorne. Vicky (the Blowtorch-Wielding OotCDCB™) says Update 4/27/14: So... my reading slump’s over! I'm not the biggest fan of short stories; I usually feel they are too brief for me to get to know the characters and really come to care about what they are going through. That being said... Marissa Meyer has a rare and amazing capacity to make me feel invested in her characters’ stories no matter how short they are. This is the fourth time I got sucked right into one of her shorts and not only enjoyed the heck out of it but got a lot of feels too. CGtBL was hilarious most of the time, but there were also scenes in which my heart ached for little Thorne for reasons. I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll just say this: 13-year-old Thorne is just as charming, sneaky and mischievously witty as his older self. The swindling little devil had me laughing out loud at his antics! Bonus: readers get the backstory of the ‘Kate Fallow incident’ mentioned in Cress and I liked it quite a lot. ***************************************************** 3/02/14: I reaaally want to read this short story, but it seems that it's not available anywhere other than in the Target exclusive copies of Cress. I know, I know, the whole point of it being exclusive is that you can't get it anywhere else, but I hope someday it'll be available online for those of us who didn't get one of the Target copies. I want my swoony Thorne fix! My reviews of other books/short stories in the series: Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, prequel) Glitches (The Lunar Chronicles, #0.1) Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) The Queen's Army (The Lunar Chronicles, #1.5) Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2) Cress (Lunar Chronicles, #3) Winter (Lunar Chronicles, #4) Gavin says This tiny novella in the Lunar Chronicles series provided an interesting glimpse into the childhood of the ever charming and witty Carswell Thorne. That said, it was very short and held nothing crucial so could easily be skipped. Rating: 3 stars. Natalie Monroe says Who knew Carswell could be such a dick? A lovable dick nonetheless, but a long way from the witty, kindhearted captain who wouldn't take advantage of Cress in her infatuated state in Cress. I still ship them like mad though. Simona Bartolotta says I honestly can't decide if he is more manipulative than cute or the other way around. Probably he's just the perfect embodiment of both and I have a crush on him that's as big as a palace. EDIT 27/12/15: rereading it a month after the first time, it feels even better. So. Cute. Adita ?The Slumbering Insomniac? says ★★★★★★★★★?[9/10] THAT is our captain. Scheming and cheating and finagling criminal mastermind. Oh, since when do you think that scheming and cheating is also "charming"? Yeah, since Captain Carswell Thorne. You would think ? that he deserved his confinement in the Beijing Prison. ? That they did the right thing by reclaiming the Rampion he stole from the American Federation. ? That Sage Darnel was right when he said that Carswell didn't deserve Cress. ? That he should have admitted to Kate Fallow that he crushed on her. Almost. If you didn't know any better. Captain Thorne!! ◆dreamy sigh◆ isabelle says Probably because I imagine Carswell like this or like this is why I love him so much. And how he's also really thoughtful towards others. And how he's really clever. And how he's just really attractive.

In this thesis, I explain the theory in detail, apply it to the text, and discuss what can be gained by applying such a theory to young adult literature. Young adult literature (YAL) works with the concept of identity, and applying a Social Psychological theory of identity to YAL can provide a new vantage point from which to examine the concept of identity as portrayed in YAL. Through my application of Identity Theory to the texts, I demonstrate how we can apply this theory to young adult novels, focusing on three specific identities of the main character, Cinder. Following this analysis, I discuss potential pedagogical implications of this type of textual analysis in addition to implications for the field of YAL itself.

Scarlet is BA!By D.DunstockI admire Meyer’s clever way of combining Little Red Riding Hood with Cinderella and still maintaining the sci-fi-esque, dystopian theme that underlies The Lunar Chronicles.Scarlet was good… I enjoyed this installment more than Cinder. Mostly, I was drawn to Wolf. Who wouldn’t enjoy a handsome, brooding and dark, tortured male who is part canine? That sounds weird, but he reminded me a lot of Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights. And, well, I guess I like that sort of complex character?Scarlet lives in France with her Grand-mere. One day, Grand-mere goes missing and Scarlet will do anything to find her, as her grandmother has been the only legitimate parental figure she has ever known. She hooks up with a shady character named Wolf, and he knows where Scarlet can find her Grand-mere; he voluntarily takes her to Paris, and then they REALLY hook up. Tis the beginning of a beautiful… tortured love affair. In the meantime, we left Cinder in a jail in New Beijing, tasked with escaping and meeting Dr.

An informative addition to this sci-fi/fantasy saga.By AnonymousThroughout the entire Lunar Chronicles, the main villain has been the ruthless Lunar queen Levana, an ambitious, merciless Lunar who hides her true self behind false glamour, and whose past holds treacherous, mysterious secrets that caused her to become the Evil Queen. Fairest reveals those secrets, and paints a picture of the lonely, disfigured Lunar princess who has lived without support and acceptance her entire life.Plot: Fifteen-year-old Levana Blackburn lives behind the shadow of her beautiful, cruel older sister Channary, who becomes queen of Luna after their parents are brutally murdered. Levana, who is deformed due to an "accident" caused by her sister in their childhood, desperately seeks love and acceptance, and feels that the only way to accomplish that is to disguise her ugliness by a beautiful glamour. She falls in love with a loyal guard who is married, and his wife is pregnant with their child. Somehow Levana ignores this, and gets it into her head that the guard, Evret Hayle, loves her, even though he makes it clear on numerous occasions that he does not.
