With hits such as "Close to You," the Carpenters proved to be one of the most significant pop music acts of 70s. Chronicling the brother-and-sister duo from their earliest high school performances to Karen's tragic death, their story is told through interviews with such musical legends as Burt Bacharach and Herb Alpert, along with clips from their many television appearances. Under the Streetlamp: Let the Good Times Roll Wednesday, December 2, 2015, 9:30-11:00 p.m. With their unique style and modern “Rat Pack” persona, Under the Streetlamp brings the American Radio Songbook to a whole new level in this electrifying concert. The show includes classic hits of the 50s, 60s and 70s with the perfect balance of tender ballads and up-tempo classics, all performed with the same signature harmonies and slick dance moves that have made this group irresistible. Libera: Angel Sings Christmas in Ireland Thursday, December 3, 2015, 8:00-9:30 p.m. The iconic St. Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh, Ireland, is the setting for a performance of Christmas songs by one of the world's most accomplished and acclaimed boy choirs, Libera. In a concert recorded for television, 'Angels Sing, Libera Christmas in Ireland' presents traditional Christmas carols interpreted in the Libera style, and influenced by Irish music and melodies. Jacques Pepin’s 80th Birthday Celebration Thursday, December 3, 9:30-11:00 p.m. Toast the culinary legend with chefs Lidia Bastianich, Rick Bayless and Ming Tsai as they prepare a celebratory feast for Pepin. During preparations, the chefs and friends share memories, anecdotes from their kitchen experiences and lots of laughs. Il Volo Buon Natale Friday, December 4, 2015, 8:00-9:30 p.m. The young Italian trio is celebrating the holidays with this special, performed before an enthusiastic audience and adoring fans amidst a backdrop of Santa hats, decorated Christmas trees, and beautifully wrapped presents. Performing with the Miami Symphony Orchestra, Il Volo takes on standards like "O Holy Night," "Ave Maria," "Silent Night," "Panis Angelicus," and "Blue Christmas." And their impish charm is on full display for upbeat renditions of "Let It Snow," "Jingle Bell Rock," and "Feliz Navidad." WHRO brings you six of those stories in an unprecedentedly personal look at Hampton Roads veterans overcoming adversity, supporting others as they return home, and honoring the comrades that lost their lives on the battlefield. In Part 1 of WHRO’s Veterans Voices Town Hall we showcase the stories of Veterans determined to overcome challenges like getting their VA benefits and military downsizing.
