Year 4 Residential Visit As we write, we are looking forward to welcoming back our Year 4 children this afternoon from their activity filled adventure at Fellside. I am sure the Year 4 parents and carers will be looking forward to hearing all their stories as much as I am. Hopefully there will also be some good photographs that we can share on our website. Aydon Castle – Year 1 The Year 1 children enjoyed their visit to Aydon Castle and finding out what life was like before their parents or even their grandparents were born! The weather was so kind to us the children were able to have their picnic lunch outside in the orchard. School Meals – second half of summer term A separate letter has been sent out on ParentMail today detailing school meal costs for the second half of the summer term. Good Sports @ Tyne, Rede & Coquet Good Sports @ Tyne, Rede & Coquet will be running Multisports and activity weeks (including tennis, hockey, football, badminton, water activities and crafts) in a number of venues during the summer holiday period. Structures indicate the region was inhabited Fduring the Stone Age and artefacts from the Bronze and Iron Ages have also been found. The Romans left a more obvious mark in Hadrian’s Wall but it was Anglian invaders that led to the creation of Northumbria. The kingdoms of Bernica and Deira became one under Ӕthelfrith and, when Athelstan was crowned king, Northumbria became part of England. The Normans also made their presence felt, as they rebuilt many of the monasteries, founded abbeys and added castles (mainly defensive structures against the Scots) and it’s these that make the county so interesting. When the countries united under James VI, many of the castles became less important and their decline was inevitable. It’s these ruins that bring the countryside alive. The county also played its part in the Industrial Revolution producing the coal that helped power the growth of the British Empire around the world.

Jahrhundert errichtet und in der Folgezeit mehr und mehr befestigt, wurde Aydon Castle bis in die 1960er noch als Farm genutzt. Lage In strategischer Lage am Hügelrand oberhalb eines Waldgebiets liegt Aydon Castle nördlich von Corbridge und südlich der alten Grenzlinie zu Schottland entlang des Hadrians Walls aus römischer Zeit. Nutzung Besichtigungen in der gut erhaltenen Anlage sind möglich. Am ersten Augustwochenende wird Aydon Castle mit einem Mittelalterfest bespielt. Bau/Zustand Gut erhalten und über die Jahrhunderte je nach Nutzung renoviert. Typologie Befestigtes Herrenhaus mit Vorburg. Sehenswert Das gut erhaltene Herrenhaus mit seinen verschiedenen Gebäudetrakten gibt einen guten Eindruck vom Leben im Mittelalter und den baulichen Veränderungen über die Jahrhunderte.
