Why Did Mark Sheppard Leave Supernatural Why did mark sheppard leave supernatural Continue Supernatural may have wrapped up its final season last week, but fans can't stop buzzing about the finale. The twelfth season of the show ended in a bloody explosion, when many characters met their death. Major players like Crowley and Castiel met the wrong end of Angel's blade during the All Along the Watchtower, leaving fans stunned by the sudden turn. Fans have since learned Castiel will return to Supernatural next season, but Crowley won't be returning as a regular season. And, according to one Supernatural star, there are no plans for the diabolical man to ever return to the show. Taking to Twitter, Mark Sheppard doused any hopes of Crowley making a return to Supernatural in the future. The actor responded to a tweet that co-executive producer Jim Michaels sent after the finale. Creative wrote: Thanks for all Mark! We never say never Mark! Also, I know where you live! The message was meant to reassure fans the door was left open for Crowley's return. However, it doesn't look like Sheppard had any part of it. The actor responded to the post by writing: With all due respect, your comment is inaccurate and misleading to fans. There are no plans for me to return to SPN at any stage. The insistent message certainly makes it look like Sheppard's take on Crowley finally finished on Supernatural. The actor may be willing to distance himself from the show after playing the former King of Hell for years. The character came out in the glare of vengeful fame as he sacrificed his life to defeat Lucifer once again. Looks like the ending was final for Sheppard, but that doesn't mean Crowley is finished. If Supernatural really needs a man to make a comeback, drama can always change. However, it will be difficult to replace the snark that Sheppard brought if Crowley is supposed to be another actor. It was a kind of acting shtick. Any long-term TV show eventually creates repetitive characters that are gaining popularity with audiences. This is especially true for Supernatural, since fans of the series is one of the most loyal and dedicated in the history of pop culture. Anyone who makes their mark on Supernatural is likely to be made in the eyes of fans for the rest of their career, much less their time on the show. However, while Supernatural is well known for having dead characters returning later for another hurrah, this was not the case with Mark A. Sheppard's Crowley, which was first introduced back in Season 5. Crowley began his tenure as an unequivocal villain, but as the series went on, he found his interests aligned with Sam and Dean Winchester more and more often, to the point where he seemed to develop unconventional friendships with the brothers. Crowley's demonic nature meant he could never be fully trusted, but he still rescued the Winchesters from a few traffic jams. In the finale of the 12th season, Supernatural Crowley met his demise by sacrificing his own life to try to lure Lucifer into what would become known as the World of the Apocalypse. Supernatural is now in its fifteenth and final season, and as far as anyone knows, neither Crowley or Mark A. Sheppard will return before Sam and Dean go into the sunset. Why Mark A. Sheppard came out of Supernatural shortly after Crowley came out of Supernatural, was a rather provocative example on Twitter, where executive producer Jim Michaels hinted that both Crowley and Mark A. Sheppard could not be done with the series forever. Sheppard responded by accusing Michael of deliberately misleading fans and explicitly stated that he had no plans to return at any time. Fans were left baffled and wondering why there seemed to be bad blood between the producers of Supernatural and one of their best support players. While the circumstances surrounding Sheppard's departure are still not 100% clear, the actor revealed during the 2018 convention what he felt about Crowley's graduation. says that for the last couple of couple writers and producers have clearly decided to move in a different direction, and one that doesn't necessarily include Crowley. It feels like they were looking for a way to write it for a story for two years, though they weren't directly with him about that desire. He also thought Crowley's death was poorly done, and that Crowley went from being the smartest character on the show to being the dumbest character on the show in two seasons, and thinks writers have run out of ideas for him. Interestingly, Sheppard revealed during another speech at the 2018 convention that he wasn't the man who made the call to kill Crowley, and that he still doesn't necessarily want to leave Supernatural. Unfortunately, it looks like the venerable drama will end without a reunion between the Crawley and Winchester boys. If you're waiting for Mark Sheppard to return as Crowley for Supernatural last season, don't hold your breath. Well, Crowley is kind of technically trapped in an empty right now, showrunner Andrew Dabb explained to TVLine. As we know, the empty character is for us, someone with an agenda. So I'd say there has to be a really good reason for Empty to let Crowley wake up - and I don't know what the reason has been presented quite yet. With only nine episodes remaining in the series, Supernatural has no time to bring the fan-favorite character back. If Crowley's return is not planned for now, it is unlikely to happen. Of course, Dabb may be the wrong fans so as not to spoil the surprise; his comment certainly leaves the possibility open, if not by much.
