Labeling a document a “manifesto” is one way the media marks its author as mentally unstable, or, even worse, a lone voice yelling into the wilderness. Revelations of isolated lives spent in cabins, whether in the remote Mon- tana wilderness or the snow-capped mountains of Big Bear, CA, paint an image of an unhinged, anti-social individual wholly out of touch with reality, if not totally against it (the climactic self-inflicted gunshot wound provides ultimate confirmation of this).
