Bennetts BSB is back! And, the wait will have been worth it. Fans, riders, teams, organisers – we’ve all wanted to see racing as soon as it was safe to do so and now the time has finally come.

There’s no argument that there have been bigger priorities than racing since all those months ago in March, but the return to action on track represents a step in the direction of normality; events on the calendar to look forward to, cheering on favorite riders, predicting the winners. Then there’s the sounds. The speed…

And what better place to restart the season? Donington Park offers some of the hardest challenges for riders and some spectacular racing for the fans watching at home. After a long break and a short season ahead, we know that none of the riders will want to join the ‘Craner Club’ but extract maximum points from a season without a Showdown.

Reigning champion, , is off chasing glory in World Superbikes, but who will succeed in his place is far from certain (nothing ever is in Bennetts BSB!).

Whilst it is easy to get swept up in the here and now of racing getting underway at Donington Park for Round 1, we also spare a thought to all those who have been affected by this horrible Coronavirus. Either through being associated to, or having been a victim yourself, or as one of the key worker heroes that have kept – and continue to keep – the wheels of this great country moving forward when we need it the most.

IT’S NOT JUST We unfortunately will not see fans, who play such a huge part in making Bennetts BSB the incredible show it is, trackside this month and social distancing may still be in place, ABOUT THE RIDE... but the motorcycle community is very much one that stands shoulder to shoulder. Everyone at Bennetts wishes you a great weekend, enjoy the action and stay safe. I’m very pleased to welcome back the Bennetts British Superbike Championship to Donington Park, for the belated first round of what I’m sure will be a hugely entertaining 2020 season. And I hope that all riders, teams, officials and volunteers are in good health and spirits following what has been a difficult year so far.

This weekend’s visit to Donington Park is the first of two to the East Midlands circuit on a revised, compressed Bennetts BSB calendar which features six triple-header events for a total of 18 races. The Showdown aspect of the championship has been put to one side for the time being in light of the reduced schedule too, so every race counts towards the overall title.

It’s obviously a great disappointment that the traditional visits to Cadwell Park and Assen won’t be happening this year, but Series and Race Director Stuart Higgs has done a fantastic job to ensure we’ll see a great championship despite this year’s complex challenges. We’re also very disappointed that, until the end of this month at least, we won’t be able to welcome spectators to Bennetts BSB events at MSV circuits.

Something that hasn’t changed this year is the quality of the rider line-up in Bennetts BSB, which once again cements the championship’s status as the planet’s leading domestic two-wheeled series. Josh Brookes returns for a title challenge with VisionTrack Ducati, alongside new teammate Christian Iddon, whilst another exciting line-up to look out for will be Honda Racing’s fraternal pairing of Glenn and Andrew Irwin. Meanwhile remains on the Ducati that fired him into the title fight last season.

Despite the unforeseen complications of 2020, I’m certain that Bennetts BSB will continue to thrive this year and provide some of the most entertaining motor racing on offer. I’m looking forward to this weekend’s three races, and I hope that everyone Fuel - Greater than 3% fuel saving else will enjoy them too, wherever you’re watching from.

hen the Bennetts British Superbike Championship gets underway on WSaturday it will have been 293 days since the last time the lights went out on the final race of 2019 at Brands Hatch last October. The thirst for the return of some of the best action on the planet will finally be quenched.

Last year’s title fight went down to the wire with just five points separating Scott Redding and Josh Brookes at the top of the standings and, with the reigning champion moving on, one thing is for sure – a different champion will be crowned when racing restarts.

After narrowly missing out last season, Brookes is back with the multiple title-winning PBM team, albeit in a different guise after announcing a new title sponsor over the winter, which sees them line up as VisionTrack Ducati on the 2020 grid. The 2015 champion teams up with Christian Iddon, who switches to Ducati after a long relationship with the Tyco BMW team.

Tommy Bridewell had his best season to date in 2019; the partnership with the Oxford Products Racing Ducati team flourished last year, turning them into race winners and in a position to fight for the championship honours. Bridewell secured third place in the title battle for a second time, and after topping the times pre-season at the Monteblanco test, he will be hungry for more this year.

The Massingberd-Mundy Kawasaki team have become the official Kawasaki Superbike team for 2020 and they have expanded their line-up for the new season, with previous Showdown contender and race winner Danny Buchan, joined by Lee Jackson. Buchan was another rider who delivered his best championship result in 2019, with a fourth place finish for the FS-3 Racing run squad and it was Jackson who topped the recent official test here just last week at Donington Park, so they are sure to be leading contenders this weekend.
